The town of Berea experienced some significant growth during its early years although development halted around 1900 due to World War I and World War IIs related disruptions which left the community with little land or money for new housing developments. However, over time new businesses and residents have migrated into Berea bringing about resurgent development activity that has seen anew progress since 2000 including retail space being developed on Main Street as well assignificant alterations to Streetscape between 1000 block East Ninth Street (now known as Boulevard) and 12th Street (now known as Park Avenue). Today, Berea is a vibrant small-town culture centered around its namesake shopping center which includes several large department stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney, Macy’s Inc., Saks Fifth Avenue New York City Chapter and more. Additionally, several smaller businesses dot the downtown area providing access to quality food options along with arts and cultural events throughout year-round including Bluegrass Renaissance Festival held every May at Petersburg Fairgrounds; Shakespearefest held each fall at Bardstown Playhouse; Ethiopian Folklore Festival taking place annually in late November/early December at local fairgrounds adjacent to courthouse plaza; annual Christmas Parade featuring floats made from items collected from local businesses throughout November; Stampede Celebration on Labor Day weekend which features cowboy rides、dances、pancakes etc.; Pumpkin patch day on October 26th; annual 4K parade hosted by Greenville Kiwanis Club on October 23rd following traditional hearse parade theme “A Time To Remember”
