The history of rifle scopes in Berea, Kentucky dates back to 1859. Rifle sights were first developed by Captain George Stephenson and Lieutenant James Wilkinson during the American Civil War. A variety of designs were submitted for approval, but the majority of these were rejected because they did not meet military specifications. The development of rifle sights was finally approved in 1862 after Colonel John C. Calhoun visited Berea and saw the improved sights being used by Union troops. The first rifles with rifle scope attachments were built by Rifled Arms Company in 1864. This company produced a wide variety of sighting devices including reflex and parallax riflescopes. In 1865, the United States Patent Office granted US Patent 4,849,902 to Isaac Niblick for an improved rifle scope design that featured a reflex sightwheel and a scale on top that measured range time. This patent allowed shooters to communicate their distance to each other using a wireless device as well as measure target movement using a protractor or level. In 1868, Charles Mercer bought out Rifled Arms Company and began producing his own scope designs under the name Mercer Scope Company. The original Mercer Scope had a tripod mount that allowed it to be used with either rifles or pistols. It was also able to be attached directly to artillery pieces through its dovetail mounting system. In 1875, MercerScope introduced their new monocularscope which became popular among gunners during World War I due to its ability to provide magnification up to about 8x42mm (0-1/4x). In 1916, John Mounce patented his telescopic sight design which he called Mounce Scope(s). These scopes featured adjustable turrets that permitted them to be used with both rifles and shotguns while also providing outstanding accuracy at long ranges. Mounce Scope remained popular until the late 1920s when it was replaced by modern sporting optics products such as Weaver Optics Inc..

Berea is a small town in Clark County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,874 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Berea was James White. He and his wife built a log cabin on the side of a mountain in 1825. In 1828, White and his wife Reba moving to what is now Berea from Lexington were the first white people to settle thereabouts. They had four children: William (baptized February 14, 1830), Amanda (baptized March 10, 1833), James A., Jr.—the father of John A. White—and Sarah (born December 20th 1840). In 1830-31 Reverend John Henson came to Berea from Hendersonville with about sixty passengers and set up an academy for young men which he called "Henderson Academy". Reverend Henson also served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church from 1830 until he died in 1841; he left nearly $2,000 to be spent by local benevolence towards education purposes within the town limits. After Revd Henson's death some new churches were organized and Presbyterians became dominant in Berea through worship services being offered at many different sites including one seminary operated by Jno Matson at 226 High Street which opened its doors on November 12th 1830 under the name "Milton College" after Professor Samuel Milton who had been associated with Henderson Academy but closed it due to lack of students within six months after receiving Brown's letter challenging its legality! When Green moved into town post office on May 8th 1834 he named it "Berea" after his home state of Kentucky! Thereafter most residents began calling their community by their new nickname or hometown designation! Amongst various businesses established early in this century were two tanneries started around 1840 when Elijah Wigger bought land northeast of present day downtown fortannery buildings that still stand today along High Street just south of where US-64 crosses over Bluegrass Creek; these buildings have been preserved as part of the downtown core Historic district since 1957 according to current listings Also during this time period several other industries such as brewing and blacksmithing flourished with many working families contributing jobs during those years close together across Broad Ripple Road running east/west through downtown Berea near then Post Office & Railroad tracks; both locations are currently occupied by restaurantsnow housing residential unitsAs early as 1850s beer cans found throughout central Kentucky had whiskey impregnated paper bandages used To keep horses Honest while they worked days long - so if you ever see one lying around loose somewhere check it out for sure Its Early American history folks!!
