On November 3rd, 2002, voters approved turning over control of all public schools within Hardin County to Lexington Public Schools District #1 via an initiative known as "Yes on 1" On December 12th 2009 hardin county library trustees voted no on increasing their budget by $2 million dollars which would have allowed for more staff and expansions into new building projects
