Gun stores quickly adapted by stocking rifles only for law enforcement officers and other approved use cases (such as target shooting). As demand for firearms merchandise grew throughout Kentucky among these newowners of rural land, so too did prices; by 1922 there were now sixgun dealers operating within 5 miles of Berea alone! However, it wasn’t until World War II that firearm clothing truly took off within Berea itself; during this time period hats became popular head covering items due to fears of air-raids being launched against the town (although some women continued to wear hats during WWII). The area now included in Berea was settled by Germans and other Europeans during the late 18th century. In 1819, the United States purchasedadoce from Spain for $10,000.
Berea, Kentucky is a small town located in Warren County, Kentucky. The population was 4,610 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Berea has a post office with ZIP code 40505. The first inhabitants of Berea were Native Americans who lived there for many years before white people moved into the area in the late 1800s. The first European settlers were Frenchmen who arrived in 1796 and named the land "Berea." They built a cabin on a hill near present-day Berea and started to cultivate the land. In 1814, General William Clark and his forces invaded Kentucky during the Mexican War and encountered an Indian tribe called the Shawnees living on what is now Berea Township. When they killed six of their own number, General Clark became interested in this tribe's weapons which he wanted to trade for some Apache horses he had been fighting against up north. He organized a party of men and women to explore this area and discovered that there was enough water but no natural resources to support such an endeavor so he decided to return home instead. After returning from his expedition, General Clark surveyed much of what is now Warren County when he realized that it would be necessary to create new homesteads if he were ever to gain control over all of Kentucky! In 1815, one such group founded by him settled on what is now known as Old Fortieth Street just across from present-day Union High School (now known as Union Middle School). They called their settlement "Berea." The town site was surveyed by Captain John Fenton in 1821 and named after Professor James Ketchum who resided in Cincinnati at that time teaching moral philosophy at Morehouse College (now George Washington University). When Captain Fenton died suddenly while surveying the town site, his assistant Lieutenant Samuel Weeden took over surveying duties but weaned himself away from professional survey work soon thereafter because he found it too challenging! Weeden left several significant maps including one that shows where Main Street meets Fourth Street today while others show different locations for churches/schools etc... These early surveys are still used today as part of municipal zoning regulations! This process begins with selecting an arbitrary point on a map - usually one near downtown - then measuring its distance from other points within municipality limits using trigonometry! Eventually assorted streets will be designated according to these surveys which are then approved by city officials! Today's street names reflect those initial proposals: First Avenue (Fenton), Second Avenue (Weeden), Third Avenue (Hale), Fourth Avenue (Powell) - etc... Agricultural development began around 1830 when slaves began working on farms east of Berea along US 362 which became known as White Road today. By 1840 most slaves had been freed and many local farmers bought or leased free black families farmsteads west of Berea where they raised crops until emancipation in 1865... The post office was established in 1835 by Jno Ewing under Act No 8ofthat year; it served Pigeon Forge until 1861 when it relocated to downtown Bereas location... A school system was organized here beginning with Harrison Academy (!1836)... Two churches were erected here during this period: First Baptist Church completed in 1839 (#1) & Second Presbyterian Church finished #2 circa 1840 (#3)... Manufacturing activity increased rapidly due to demand for cotton textiles imported through Louisville & Evansville... The steamboat traffic between Louisville & Evansville stopped around 1850 due to increasing competition from railroads.... In 1861 Confederate forces occupied much of eastern KY causing much violence includingat Bereas main square where hundreds dead bodies lay..... After Confederate troops withdrew most businesses reopened except for stores owned by military officers etc... One resident remaining after war ended managed business until 1968....... By 1870 only three houses remained standing within village limits; all have since been replaced or remodeled.. Boat dock / wharf facility opened here about 1870 serving both local boat traffic & pleasure vessels docking at nearby Newport harbor.... It became an independent republic within the United States on July 4, 1849. On December 16, 1861, it merged withUniontown to form the new city of Berea-Uniontown. On February 14, 1898 – one day after General Ulysses S. Grant's visit to Uniontown – Berea had its incorporation as a city with a total population of 20 residents and two businesses: the Citizens Bank and grain elevator (now called the First National Bank). Early on this date (February 14), local newspapers reported that "the citizens have decided upon incorporation as a city" and that "the directors are now meeting to adopt resolutions setting forth its plans for growth." During World War II Berea was home to over 1,000 soldiers from both sides of the conflict who were stationed there during various campaigns such as Liberation of Europe or Okinawa campaign
