Grant and Abraham Lincoln; Generals George Custer and William Tecumseh Sherman; businessman Andrew Johnson; author Jingo Smith; singers Ray Charles, Gospel Men Quartet, Patsy Cline and Willie Dixon; basketball coach Rick Majerus; artists such as Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Jimmie Rodgers; meteorologist Hal Lewis; writer Will Rogers; lawmakers Jack Conway (founder/first mayor), John Fetterman (third mayor), Joe Donnelly (politician from Illinois) and Andy Barr (governor). Today, Bardstown is a vibrant community full of culture, commerce, education, business opportunities and many interesting historical sites dating back to its early days - including original buildings from when Winchester was founded!

Bardstown, Kentucky is a town in Jessamine County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Jessamine County. Bardstown was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1786 and named for Alexander Maclaren, 10th Laird of Ayrshire. In 1824, Bardstown became a part of Breathitt County and then fellow Jessamine County in 1851. The first school in Bardstown was opened in 1833. The present courthouse was built in 1915 and has been used as the county court house since that time. The town also contains an old brick church called the First Baptist Church which served as the original jail from 1800 to 1814 and now houses the museum of Bardstone Village which is located on Main Street between High Street and State Route 502. The community has many cultural attractions including two small theaters (the Second National Playhouse opened in 1951) as well as several restaurants and bars which serve local cuisine such as IPA's (Pours Over Easy), BBQ chicken wraps with apple sauce, soft pretzels with chili cheese dipping sauce, strawberry shortcake or peach pie for dessert both during lunchtime and evening services; Bardstown also hosts an annual arts festival each June called "The Arts Festival".
