In 1984, BMI introduced its new action called "Hammerless" which allowed users to reload ammunition without having to remove or disassemble the hammerlock breech block. This innovation helped increase profits for BMI while reducing manufacturing costs which led to increased exports throughout Europe and eventually America where they continue production today under various brand names including Browning-Mize Firearms Corporation, Colt handgun company, Ruger Sporting Goods Co., etcetera.

Ashland, Kentucky is a small town located in the Appalachian Mountains of central Kentucky. The population was 9,868 at the 2010 census. Ashland is one of three towns in Breathitt County and one of two towns in Knox County. The first settlers to the area were French Canadians who arrived around 1720. For a time, they operated a fur trading post near present-day Ashland. In 1764, the Englishman John Lawson bought land from the Canadians and began developing it into what is now Ashland. He named his new settlement for "Australia," after his home country of Australia. In 1801, United States troops burned down part of Lawson's store and home as part of their victory over Native American forces at Fallen Timbers Creek. This event helped spur development in what is now Ashland. In 1810, European Americans founded the city of Lexington on lands that had been owned by Lawson and his family since before America gained its independence from Great Britain. The city rapidly grew and by 1825 it included all of present-day Breathitt County except for parts on the east side ofthe river which were annexed by Knox County in 1827. During much of its history,Ashland struggled with pollution problems caused by manufacturing processes used in nearby cities such as Lexington and Louisville (which were then known as "The Topeka Capital"). However, changes brought about by economic growth have led to more responsible production practices withinAshland limits over the past few decades The city has also seen an increase in cultural attractions including an art museum (thebased at Eastern Kentucky University), several theatres/movies theaters (including one built specifically for children),a varietyof restaurants and bars,and several golf courses
The first European settlement in what is now Ashland, Kentucky was made by Captain John Fenton in 1799. The town was founded on the east bank of the Ohio River and named for General James Wilkinson, who fought in the War of 1812. In 1814, Ashland became part of the United States after it was purchased from the British by President James K. Polk.
