Ashland, Kentucky is a small town located in the Appalachian Mountains of southern Kentucky. The population was 5,591 at the 2010 census. Ashland is the county seat of Hardin County and home to many businesses and universities. The Caney River flows through Ashland, providing both recreational opportunities and water resources for local farmers. The first Europeans to visit what is now Ashland were French traders travelling along the Ohio River in search of new markets for their goods. In 1790, American fur trader David Thompson explored this area and named it after his native place, Orleans, France. In 1812, General James Hays established Fort Hays in what is now downtown Ashland while also exploring this region. These early days were a time of innovation as US cattle trails crossed the region on their way to New Mexico and Texas. In 1821, General Andrew Jackson moved his army into what is now Hardin County during the Mexican-American War and Battle of Palo Alto resulted in major US victory over Mexican forces near present day Interstate 65. This event helped solidify US control over much of western Kansas following its victory in that war (see: Battle of Palo Alto). As part of this military campaign, General Jackson also burned Ashley but only destroyed about half its buildings due to lack of fuel as well as damage from Native Americans living nearby who had taken refuge there before fleeing across the river into Canada Coinbase on horseback when attacked by troops from Mexico City In 1865, during Union occupation Of Tennessee Following Confederate loss at Appomattox Court House; Confederate Governor John Sevier ordered all men within 8 miles (13 km)of Nashville to assemble at Pickett's Mill which then fell under Union control; according to records no one assembled anywhere near Nashville although some people may have gone into hiding In 1865-1866 several skirmishes occurred aroundAshland between Federal troops led by Brigadier General Edwin Booth & Confederate cavalry led by Captain John Tipton with most serious result being slight loss for either side

Ashland, Kentucky is a small town in the eastern part of the US state of Kentucky. The population was 4,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McCracken County. The first Ashland residents were farmers who began to settle in this area around 1785. In 1814, Captain John Wilkinson and his men built a cabin on what is now Ashland's courthouse square. By 1815, there were about fifty settlers living here and four churches serving them: Presbyterian (founded in 1815), Methodist (established in 1836), Baptist (founded in 1830), and Roman Catholic (founded in 1850). In 1840, Major Daniel Boone moved his family from Virginia to this area and started what would become the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. This railroad allowed for more commerce and development along its route; as a result, by 1860, Ashland had grown to include over one hundred homes and businesses. In 1861-1862, Union troops burned down many brick buildings used by merchants and farmers near what is now downtown Ashland during their Raid on Knoxville. This event was significant because it destroyed much of the community's infrastructure which helped it grow rapidly during Reconstruction Era times; nonetheless, by 1865 all but two of those buildings had been rebuilt or replaced thanks to donations from citizens throughout KY. 2 years later – on January 10th, 1867 – Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as President of the United States after winning an election that most people thought would be nothing more than a walkover due to bribery allegations against him. As soon as he took office, he issued an executive order calling for all states with slaveholding populations to free their slaves within six months; this order became known as " emancipation ", which finally ended slavery across America after centuries of effort by various groups including Presidents Washington Daugherty & Franklin D Roosevelt .
