Ashland is a city in and the county seat of Jessamine County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 24,569 at the 2010 census. Ashland is located on the Ohio River, just upstream of Cincinnati. The history of Ashland goes back to 1817 when three men from Kentucky named James Fenton, John Patterson, and James Robertson founded what would become Ashland. In 1830, Alexander McNaught established a post office in town which remained in operation until 1868. In 1847, John Jumper laid out the present downtown area which included what are now the University District and Main Street. He also became one of the first landowners in Ashland Township after purchase from the government for $4 million dollars in 1851. In 1862, construction began on what would become Park Avenue which ran through much of downtownAshland today. Today's Union Station was built as part of that project and is still used by Amtrak as their headquarters today. On January 1st 1865, following Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court HouseAshland became an independent republic under President Abraham Lincoln with its own Constitution and laws as well as seceding from Jessamine County (now Hamilton County) to become Jessamine County Borough (now Jessamine). The new county Seat was moved to Newport News in 1870 before returning to Ashland again in 1880 when all but four blocks east of Market Street were annexed into Jessamine County proper via re-traction of Market Street between Highways 61 and 63A due to growing population density within Ashleytown limits while Newport News continued growth without annexing any blocks outside its boundaries - all this occurred despite numerous petitions from citizens throughout town who wanted their community preserved as an enclave within their homecounty!

Ashland is a small town in Boone County, Kentucky, that was founded in 1814 by General John Ashland and his family. The community References to "Ashland" can be traced back to the early 1800s when it was spelled Ashtalla. The first known settler in what is now Ashland was James Kirkpatrick who arrived in 1795. At the time, the area around Ashtalla comprised part of what is now Lebanon Township. In 1814, General John Ashland purchased land on which he built a log cabin and named it Ashtalla after his home state of Alabama. By 1825, Ashtalla had a population of about 60 people and consisted of 5 houses. In 1830, General John Ashland's son-in-law Daniel Boone established a trading post at the mouth of the Elk River near present day Peeblesville. This trading post became known as Boone’s Fort. In 1840, Daniel Boone married Rachel Child and moved his family to Ashtalla where they resided for many years before moving again to Morristown in 1870. RachelChild died in 1861 at the age of 86 years; her husband Daniel Boone continued living until his death in 1896. Two years later, on October 12th1896,Daniel Boone's grandson Orson Hyde Beecher Beecher became history by becoming the last person born within miles ofmorristown after traveling over 100 miles from Peeblesville (now Lewisburg). For over three centuries since its founding,Ashtalla has been an important center for commerce and culture in northeastern Kentucky

The town successfully prosecuted many Revolutionary War battles and became a center for trade and commerce. In 1825, the town was renamed Ashland (Kentucky) because of its location on the Ohio River. In 1870, the population of Ashland reached 10,000 people. By 1900, the population had decreased to 5,000 people due to traveling and industrialization in Kentucky. However, during World War II, Ashland supported military activity with its production of munitions.
