Ashland is a city in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. Ashland is the county seat of Pike County. The community was founded by Englishman John Ash in 1802. It was named after the Ash family ofKentucky who had land near the town site. The first settler in what is now Ashland was John Atherton, who arrived there on horseback in 1802 and named his new settlement for his father-in-law, James Atherton. In 1806, Alexander McMillin established a sawmill and gristmill here which remain extant to this day. On July 4, 1812, John Clements built a large frame log courthouse with twelve rooms and two stories at what is now Main Street and Third Avenue. In 1861 an act of the Kentucky General Assembly designated Mount Vernon as the county seat for Pike County; however, this designation did not take effect until May 6 of that year when Judge Wm Hargrave moved from Lexington to become court clerk at Mount Vernon under then-county president Robert Ladd's request because he could no longer serve at Lexington due to its high population density (the typical population size for a single congressional district back then). On October 20th 1870 three men – George Cheatham, James Whitehead and Hiram Eaton – were acquitted of manslaughter following a trial that attracted international attention because it featured one of America's most celebrated buffalo hunters (George Cheatham) as defense witness and four teenagers as witnesses against him (James Whitehead, Hiram Eaton, Samuel Morse and Nathaniel Prentice). This case helped spur development around Ashland into today's thriving business district with its many towering buildings along Third Avenue including Teledyne Electric Company Headquarters building still standing today! After years of planning by businessmen Davenport & Whitney Development Company owner/manager Harvey Davenport Sr., post office construction began on November 3rd 1913 (mail service began on December 1st), followed by several other businesses such as banks (First National Bank building now known as First American Bank), grocery stores(Eaton Drugs store), department stores(Cleveland Department Store) before becoming home to Sears Roebuck Catalogs in 1924 And Kay Jewelers in 1957!!! Today you can find numerous small businesses operating within walking distance or drive if you are lucky enough to live within commuting distance!!!

Ashland, Kentucky is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,594. The first European settlers arrived in 1775 and named it Greenhills after the hilly terrain around it. In 1800, John Ashcroft donated land to make an agricultural college and founded the University of Kentucky. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century as farmers moved into what is now Ashland from surrounding counties. By 1920, most of Ashland had been annexed by Louisville and that year the first high school was built in town.During World War II, many businesses in Ashland were closed due to rationing of materials needed for war production. Many residents left their homes during this time and some people still live in downtownAshland today because of its strong economy and cultural heritage.
Ashland was founded in 1799 by John Fenton. The city was named for Ashland County,Kentucky, which at that time comprised a part of Virginia. The town grew rapidly and by 1819 it included a courthouse and jail. A year later, the area was designated as the new county seat of Ashland County. In 1827, the town erected a public clock on High Street and in 1828 erected a schoolhouse on what is now Elm Street. In 1830, the first bank in Ashland opened its doors and within five years had become one of the largest banking institutions in Kentucky. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Ashland sided with the Confederacy and seceded from Kentucky. For many years afterwards it remained an unincorporated community within Kentucky. In 1932 it became one of six cities incorporated into Louisville Slugger Stadium which then became home to both the Cardinals baseball team and other professional sports teams until 2006 when it reverted back to being an unincorporated community once again
