Ashland is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 568 at the 2010 census. Ashland is the county seat of Hardin County. The first known permanent European settlement in what is now Hardin County was made by two brothers, James and John Radcliffe, on September 12, 1775, when they founded the town of Radcliff on the Ohio River near modern-day Bowling Green. In 1814 hardin county was formed from parts of Fayette and Knox Counties and part of McCracken County. The towns that grew up around Ashland were all named for General Andrew Jackson: Haltom City (1824), Morristown (1827), Tupelo (1829) and finally Jacksonport (1830). All but Jacksonport were destroyed by fire in 1834. Heading east from present day downtown Ashland towards his childhood home on White Sands Creek in today's unincorporated community of Cumberland Gap,Andrew Jackson had reason to celebrate as he reached a new crossing of the Great Lakes just east of where he later died at age 80 years old on March 6th 1835 while occupying the fortieth military campaign against The Shawnees led by Major General George Rogers Clark within what is now Indiana territory under US control during the Mexican–American War. By this time much land along both sides of the Great Lakes had been acquired by newly organized states including Illinois,Indiana and Michigan Territory; thus no American forts or villages stood between him and his native land again after more than three decades away! Although many people still live near where he once resided - especially those who grow corn - it would be another fifty years until any major development occurred near Ashland proper! It wasn't until 1859 that Louisville lawyer Thomas Witherspoon built Witherspoon’s Store which became one of pioneer Main Street’s most distinguishing landmarks – Later becoming a Masonic Temple - located just west of present day downtownAshland across from what is now Eastern Kentucky University. This important milestone helped lay down some early legal foundations for futureHardin County settlements such as Carbondale (formed 1865) containing many large eastern Kentucky coal mines; Uniontown (founded 1870) with its brick courthouse/ jail located on Broadway North; Bardstown(founded 1886) taking center stage as “the heart”of horse breeding country surrounding Lexington; Westville(founded 1912) featuring one bedroom cottage/inn operated by PostmasterGeneral Dwight D Eisenhower during World War II before being closed due to lackadaisical attitudes about air travel then reopened following Ike's death in office in December 2008 - becoming an Old Time Music Hall complete with barbecues outdoors daily during summertime; Fairlawn( developed 1935 ) – recently renovated into apartments complete with kitchensette style living areas complete with dishwashers and ovens; current downtown Ashton contains several dozen small businesses - retailwise predominately serving foodservice purposes although there are also several professional shops nearby if needed like jewelers etc.; various types of housing developments have been erected over recent years including single family homes etc., but overall there seems to be very little change or growth taking place adjacent to Main Street since even antebellum times!

Soon after, other manufacturers started producing similar firearms based on the English revolver design. These firearms became known as “bb guns” or “pellet guns” because they only fired small pellets instead of larger rounds like rifles and shotguns do today. Many people believe that bb guns originated in China during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). One reason why this belief might be true is because there are numerous references to bb pistols from Chinese sources dating back to at least 1453 A.D., when an early version of this type of firearm was invented by Zhao Hefeng in response to an invasion by Japan.[1]

Ashland was founded by the Ashland Land Company in 1813. The company purchased 1,500 acres of land near the present-day town of Ashland from John M. Butler and James B. Talbot. In 1814, the company laid out a town on its purchase, naming it after George Washington Parish in Louisiana. The first courthouse was built in 1816 and is still used today as the Municipal Building. The population of Ashland grew rapidly during the 1800s due to agriculture and trade along the Ohio River valley. By 1830, the town had over 10,000 residents and a school system that included a high school and three academies (a technical academy for art students, a business academy for mechanics and farmers, and an agricultural academy for students who wanted to learn how to grow crops). During the Civil War, many residents sided with Confederate forces while others helped Union forces because they saw it as their duty to do so. After the war ended, many companies left Ashland but some remained until around 1870 when most of them merged into other businesses or went bankrupt. By 1945, only two buildings still stand in downtown Ashland – one from 1865 and one from 1907 – both were damaged by fire in 1951. Today, much of what once constituted downtown Ashland is gone but there are several remaining buildings including two churches (one dating back to 1892) which are open to visitors each day since 2004. Additionally, there is also an exhibit called "A History of American Buildings" located at Ashley Hall Elementary School which tells stories about various buildings from throughout history.
The first settlers in Ashland, Kentucky were the French. The town was founded on a salt lick in 1799 by Captain Jacques Marquette and his explorers. The town was named for General James Wilkinson, who served as the governor of Indiana during the early 1800s. In 1815, Ashland received its charter from the United States Congress and became a city. The city's first mayor was John Galt.
