The Winfield Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1892. The club began meeting at the corner of Second and Dodge Streets. In 1896, the club moved to a building on First Street. The first president of the club was W.G. Fitzgerald. In 1905, the club purchased a rifle from J.P. Morgan which is still used today by the club as its primary firearm. The Winfield Rifle and Pistol Club has been meeting continuously since then with only one interruption during World War II due to military service. In 1949, the club purchased two shotguns from John Ritchie of Topeka who also donated all of his firearms to the club free of charge as thank you for his support in previous years. In 1984, the Winfield Rifle and Pistol Club erected a new clubhouse on Fourth Street which now houses our membership archives, storage room, banquet hall and many other functions both inside and outside our building!

Winfield is a town in Winfield County, Kansas, United States. The population was 912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was laid out by John Witherspoon in 1871. It was named for General Winfield Scott, who served as military governor of Kansas from 1861 to 1865 and as U.S. Minister to England from 1870 to 1872. Winfield had its first post office in 1875. It incorporated as a village in 1907. The current name comes from Winfield Scott's grandson, George Armstrong Custer (1865-1939), who fought in World War I and II and received the Medal of Honor for his actions near Cambusnock Heights on 11 July 1918 while leading Company D, 1st Infantry Regiment—the OKC Rangers—against an enemy force estimated at 25,000 men under General Pershing at that point in the war effort

Winfield, Kansas was a small town in northeastern Kansas from the mid-19th century until the early 21st century. Situated on the east bank of the Missouri River, Winfield was a commercial and agricultural center for much of its history. The town was founded by pioneers in 1854, and rapidly grew into an important community with a large population. The town endured numerous natural disasters during its history, including two devastating floods in 1904 and 1910. In 1962, Winfield became one of five towns in Kansas to merge with neighboring Topeka to form Wichita. Winfield has continued to thrive as a rural community since then, remaining an important cultural and economic center within the state.
Winfield was founded in 1854 by a group of farmers led by Major General Moses Winfield. The town grew quickly and soon became a major center for trade and commerce. Winfield was known for its fine flour mills and its many industries, including lumber, cotton, iron ore, meatpacking, and shoe manufacturing. The town also hosted the first municipal election in Kansas. In 1916, Winfield was renamed after George Washington Winfield Jr., one of the original settlers in the area.
