Winfield, Kansas is a small town in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 585 at the 2010 census. Winfield is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The townsite and most of the buildings that now make up Winfield were platted in 1854 by Elias Howe. The first settler, John Potter, arrived in 1855 and built a log cabin on what is now State Route 10. A post office was established at Winfield in 1856, and growth followed until 1907 when the population passed 1,000. In 1909 the railroad was extended through Wichita to Winfield and commerce boomed as residents developed oil wells and manufactured goods for the city's growing population. In 1925 Wm Henson purchased 1/8 mile (1 kilometer) east of town from J C Nichols for $2,500 cash; he named it Henson Dale after his father who had farmed there before coming to Shawnee County in 1872. In 1930 Wm Henson donated land north of town to build what would become Allington Community School District No 6 which serves Winfield today; he also donated money for a new school building which still stands today (now known as Stonington Senior High School). The community experienced significant growth during World War II with industries such as munitions production increasing employment levels within the district; however, following 1945 decline set in as these same industries began to decline nationally after World War II ended. However local businesses have since thrived due to recent expansions into health care and other professional services along with continued innovation within industry sectors such as digital printing technology which has led to increased productivity within winfieldssmall business sector

Winfield is a small town in Kansas that is located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The population was 1,822 at the 2000 census. Winfield is one of two cities in Wichita County and it is also one of the three most populous towns in Hutchinson County. The first settlers to Winfield were immigrants from Scotland who founded the settlement in 1854. The town site was chosen by a vote and they began building their homes shortly thereafter. By 1860, Winfield had a population of 350 people and it rapidly grew into an agricultural community with mills, churches, schools, and businesses. In 1870, Winfield became one of 10 towns west of Wichita that formed the new Wichita County. The growth of Winfield meant that there was more room for development and by 1920, the town had grown to over 6,000 people. Today, Winfield is known for its historical landmarks such as Stroudsburg Hall which has been used as a museum since 1907 and contains examples of both Scottish and American architecture; Wagon Wheel Inn which was built in 1892; Hughes Chapel which was built between 1912-16; and Griggs Mill which dates back to 1872. Additionally, winfields popular tourist attractions include Griggs Well Farm Museum which features exhibits about local history including pioneer life; Armstrong Parkwhich includes a large playground/waterpark;and Old Fort Wright Museumwhich offers displays about Ulysses S Grant's military career
Winfield was founded in 1859 by John Winfield. The town grew rapidly and soon became a thriving center for commerce and agriculture. In the early years, Winfield was home to a large population of Chinese immigrants who worked in the local mills and factories. Over time, however, the Chinese community began to disappearing as more Americans arrived in town and assimilated into American culture. In 1936, Winfield became one of the first towns in Kansas to become racially integrated.
