Winfield is a city in southwestern Kansas, United States. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Dodge County. Winfield was founded in 1868 by pioneers and settlers from Missouri, Illinois, and Colorado Territory. The first post office in Winfield was established in 1870. The main industry in Winfield is agriculture; however, there are also a number of small businesses and ranchers that are located in the city. The city has a variety of cultural attractions including the Winfield Museum of History, which features exhibits on Kansas history as well as Western culture; the winery/brewery District; and the sculpture garden. In addition to its attractions, Winfield is home to a large university which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees throughout many different fields.

Winfield is a small town in Jackson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. Winfield is part of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlements in what is now Winfield were made by Emigrant Aid Society employees who came to Kansas from Illinois in 1855. In 1858, James Hutton built a log cabin on the site of what is now the administration building for Winfield Academy. The first post office was established in 1865 and named Fort Scott after Fort Scott, Kansas, which was then the capital of Kansas. In 1871, David Tilton donated land to build a school district that would include Winfield. The first Winfield High School opened in 1872 as an all-female academy under the direction of Mrs. Laura Paschal Fenton. In 1909, Averill Harriman bought 1/3 interest in the high school and renamed it Midwestern State Teachers College - also known as Haskell Institute or Midwestern State Teachers' College (HITC). HITC became one of two state universities serving Wichita when Oklahoma State University joined Kansascity Municipal District No. 5 on July 1, 1907; and with Kansascity Municipal District No. 6 on December 15, 1911; both districts were disbanded on February 14th 1913 effective date of Section 24-A RCK §254 et seq., which created Wichita metropolitan area including all entities within it other than public educational institutions having twin campuses or technical colleges having branch campuses within its boundaries without joining those schools into an entityhaving such campuses within its boundaries only if those campuses are located adjacent to each other physically separated by no more than two miles (.30 kilometers). Therefore since HITC was not adjoining any existing college campus when it became a state university it did not join that college into an entity with such Campus Locations Separation Barrier (CLSB) maintaining intact academic programs offered therein separate from extramural activities however related thereto; despite this lack of CLSB HITC continuing operation as a state university until Reorganization Order No: 11-2 dated September 25th 1981 brought about change resulting in full membership with Temple University's Middletown Campus therein effective October 1st 1981 resigning affiliation with Alice Paul Technical Institute & Community College following their merger thereunder Closure order dated May 15th 1984 terminated programming at Alice Paul Technical Institute effective June 30th 1984 following same closure order termination date thereby finally bringing about full membership with Wichita State University herein effective September 2nd 1985 .

Winfield is a city in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,898. The first settlement in Winfield was made on the present site of Winfield on July 3, 1854 by Major John Fenton and Captain George A. Haggerty. The name "Winfield" was given to the town by General James K. Polk for his victory at the Battle of Olustee in 1846. The city was established on April 15, 1870 by an act of the Kansas Legislature as part of Shawnee County. It consolidated with southern Shawnee City on November 1, 1907. The first post office in Winfield was established at what is now Main Street on July 3, 1854; it served until October 9, 1861 due to growth within Shawnee County and Apache Creek (now Geary Boulevard) ran through Winfield at that time separate from Shawnee City limits. On January 14, 1865, a new post office called Albion opened at what is now North First Street; it functioned until May 31st 1870 because Main Street had become too wide for wagon traffic and horseback transportation between Albion and Shawnee City proper). In 1870-71 there were only three families living in Winfield: John Fenton (father), George A Haggerty (son), and Sarah Ewing (mother). In 1881-82 there were 10 families residing in WinFIELD: John Fenton (father), George A Haggerty (son), Anna J. Haggerty (daughter), Isaac Burritt (brother-in-law), Rebecca Cooksey Burritt(sister-in-law), James Cooksey Burritt(brother)), Eliza Crouse Cooksey Burritt(niece)), Martha Lushington Cooksey Burritt(granddaughter)). By 1905 there were over 100 families living inWinFIELD: John Fenton Sr.,George A Haggerty Jr.,Anna J Haggerty III,,Rebecca Cooksey Burritt IV,,James Cooksey Burritt V,,Eliza Crouse Cooksey BurrITT II+Martha Lushington CooksieBurritta ). During World War I most winfields residents enlisted or volunteered for military service including opening up their homes to serve without pay while they were away fighting or being drafted into service overseas; many male citizens also became farmers becoming involved with raising livestock and other farming activities during this time frame as well which helped support their war efforts financially . Upon returning home after hostilities ended many residents took up various positions within their community such as policeman/firefighter/police officer/etc.; some even held high elected government posts such as Mayor from 1955 - 1964 under then Governor Olathe Moulton Hearn among others . Many family members have remained active into our current day Communities Services District along with multiple grandchildren working both locally & nationally providing vital help to locals here today!
