In 1881, Winfield was the second town in Kansas to pass a gun control law. The measure, which called for the registration of all handguns and the demonstration of unloaded firearms at public shows, passed with only a small majority (57% to 43%).

Today, Remington Arms is one of only two remaining gun manufacturers left standing in America (the other being Glock AG).
