Winfield is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,549 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Wichita River. The town was founded by wagon drivers and their families in 1854. Winfield was named for General Winfield Scott, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. The first post office was established in 1857. In 1865, Winfield became part of Sedgwick County and changed its name to Winfield. In 1907, a sawmill built by Chas Settle and his brother-in-law Milton Hargrave opened in Winfield; it soon became one of the largest sawmills in Kansas. The mill closed in 1948 but reopened as an amusement park in 1966. In 1978, the mill burned down and never reopened again; it has since been abandoned and is now a field which covers . Winfield also contains two churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1854) and Second Presbyterian Church (established 1865). There are also several businesses including a bank (1887), grocery store (1902), library (1907), auto dealership (1981), gas station (1982), car dealership(1985), ice cream parlor(1991) and several schools including Cook High School (founded 1911) which is home to the only high school football team from Sedgwick County; Winfields Central High School which serves as both a junior high school and secondary school; Westside Intermediate School which serves as both a middle school/secondary school; Eastside Intermediate School which serves as both a middle school/secondary school; Park View MiddleSchool serving students fromsedge Side Schools - all six buildings serve grades 6-8th grade students with many more classes available for 9th through 12th grade students when needed - located adjacent to Westside Intermediate School across from IMAX theater & movie theater complex.; Dodge City Elementary School located east of town on Dodge City border - this elementary offers 4th through 8th grade education along with bus transportation to other localelementary schools

Winfield was a small town in Hardin County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,417 at the 2000 census. It is now part of Topeka. Winfield was founded in 1881 as a cattle and horse ranch town. Starved of water and other natural resources, it grew slowly until the early 1920s when it experienced a Major Growth spurt thanks to its share of the new Wichita-based oil industry. Business boomed; many high-rise buildings were erected; and young families moved into Winfield from all over the country. By 1960, Winfield had become one of Topeka's most vibrant communities with an active nightlife and rich cultural heritage that draws visitors from all across the state.
