The town developed around the community of Winfield Cemetery, which started as an Episcopal church in 1884 and became a cemetery for poor people in 1903. In 1907, the town's first public school opened and remains in use today. In 1909, the Wichita–Union Railroad reached Winfield from Wichita and connected it with other towns along its route. This helped to stimulate economic development in Winfield and other towns along its route. Over time, this railroad also helped to make Winfield one of the most important agricultural communities within Sedgwick County. Today,Winfield is home to several businesses that help support local agriculture including grain elevators, processing plants, cattle feedlots, chicken coops and more. Additionally, there are several museums located within winFIELD such as the Sedgwick County Historical Society Museum which tells stories about local history while also showcasing artifacts from throughout Sedgwick County; and Hennepin County History Museum which tells stories about early settlers who lived near present-day Winfeldt; both museums are open Monday through Friday 10am until 4pm during normal season hours (closed on weekends). The first production versions of the AR-15 were made in 1984. These rifles were designed to be able to fire rounds up to 150 yards with ease. The rifle quickly became a favorite among law enforcement and First Responders due to its firepower and easy customization.

Winfield was a census-designated place in Haskell County, Kansas, United States. The population was 616 at the 2000 census. It is now a ghost town. The first settlers in Winfield were nine men and two women who came from Decatur, Illinois in 1851. They established a cabin on the east side of what is now Winfield Creek. The first post office was established in Winfield on July 1, 1852, and the name of the town was changed to Winfield two years later. In 1857, Gov. James Kansa appointed George Hennepin as receiver for Haskell County due to there being no local official to take care of it. When Hennepin died in office in 1860, his widow took over as receiver until her husband's death four years later. She sold most of her land to developers and lost all but about 3 acres which still remains within Haskell County limits today as part of the Town of Kearney (now Kearney Junction). A sawmill was built near present day Kearney by Samuel Jarrell around 1870 and continued operation until 1903 when it burned down due to an engine explosion that occurred during construction work; this destroyed much of downtown Kearney including several stores and homes which remain standing today as testament to its importance at that time. In 1904 further development began with the erection of a small brick school building on what is now Main Street just north of where the current bank building stands today; this served as the town's primary school until 1961 when it became a girls' high school known as Harvester High School after then-Governor Andrew Johnsonestablished an agricultural college within the boundaries of modern-day Kearney Junction for students from surrounding towns which included Winfieldtownship (later merged into Fremont) during his tenure as governor; this college continues operations currently named Kansas State University-Kearney campus although portions Of its buildings have been moved elsewhere since 1959 primarily because they are not compatible with their new location which includes a large science center adjacent to what used to be their football stadium! It should also be noted that one house located just south of Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue still stands unoccupied despite passing through multiple ownerships over its lifespan including being vacant for many years before finally being purchased by developer/mover Jason Hennessy who heavily renovated/ additions were made to it resulting in its current state - complete with characteristically heavy metal bars blocking access inside) The last resident departed Winfield Township on February 26th 1969 when all residents moved into nearby Independence City following enactment by Governor Bruce Babbittof Kansas legislature establishing that township along with parts Of Haskell County becoming A city Limits city known subsequently as Wichita Falls TX

Winfield was founded in 1854 by John Winfield and his wife, Sarah. The town became a railroad center in the late 19th century and experienced rapid growth during the early 20th century. In 1930, Winfield was renamed after General George S. Patton, commander of United States forces in World War II.
