In 1917 a gun store opened in town, making it possible for citizens to buy firearms without having to go outside of town. On October 10, 1918, an act of violence occurred when a group of men attempted to rob a grocery store in downtown Wichita. Three people were killed and ten were injured as a result of the robbery attempt.
