Topeka is the capital of Kansas and home to the state government and most of the higher education institutions. The city's nickname is "The City of Knowledge." It has been called "The Gateway to the Plains" for its location on Interstate 70, which links eastern Kansas with Oklahoma and Missouri. The city also has a large agricultural sector, including cereal crops such as corn and wheat, cattle ranching, and soybean production. Rock Island Arsenal (now Fort Riley National Military Park) was established in 1854 as an armory for the Indian Territory military forces stationed in that region. After being renamed Topeka Armory in 1871 it became one of the largest armories in America at that time serving both Union and Confederate arms dealers. In 1907 it merged with other armories across Kansas to become what is now George Armstrong Custerarmory - one of several Bone Armories located throughout Great Plains states during this period designed to increase production for munitions manufacturers during World War I by providing access to local resources essential for ammunition manufacturing such as coalitions had difficulty finding elsewhere

By December 1st voters had approved a revised plat which included land east side of Wichita River (now part of downtown), north side of Arkansas River (now known as North Park Avenue), northwest corner lot now owned by First National Bank building (the old State Capitol building) on current Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets and lot now occupied by Masonic Temple; all this present day land compose what is now Shawnee Heights neighborhood within Downtown Topeka boundaries today... Long story short: James K. Polk became President in 1860 due to Abraham Lincoln's election win over John Bellamy Douglas from territories south/northwest of Illinois; upon taking office he recommended moving the capital from Springfield, Missouri because then “Kansas City will be much too small for our needs” – although he knew that Springfield could only hold about 30% or so OF THE TOTAL KANSAS POPULATION! With Polk's recommendation cities such as Boston, Philadelphia & New York were offered offers to move their metropolitan areas if they would provide financial assistance towardsKansas City’s infrastructure deficiencies! After some deliberation it was decided that Stephen Acheson would serve as Secretary Of War under US Grant during Reconstruction which effectively ended slavery throughout most OF THE UNITED STATES resulting in many African Americans migrating into northern cities such as Chicago & Milwaukee who quickly took up various white collar jobs including construction! railroads were constructed across entire Midwest during this time period making travel more accessible while also providing businesses access to markets further away – all without any government assistance!!! Well done President Grant!! With growth came opportunity but also high prices associated with farmland becoming increasingly scarce; developers started purchasing large tracts piecemeal rather than developing them uniformly leading to intense competition for available real estate parcels both inside & outside city limits until recently when downtown business districts have seen significant gentrification accompanied by increased affordable housing options? It has been said that Gentrification never happened overnight& there are countless stories behind every young couple crossing my path who are either entrepreneurs or recent college grads just starting out… every one Counting! In fact since I published my last blog post Downtown growth rates have slowed while rents continue trending upwards creating quite an interesting trend amiright???
