In 1886,gunsmiths began producing revolvers using forged aluminum frames instead of wood frames as they had done before. This change helped increase efficiency since revolver production could now be mass-produced quickly without having to go through lengthy manufacturing processes like those involved with wooden revolvers. Beginning around 1907 or 1908, cowboy boots were popularized as firearm clothing due to their warmth and protection from dirt and dust when walking around towns or ranchos throughout America's West During World War I (1914-1918), many American soldiers served overseas with certain branches of military using firearms as their primary means of warfare Norton Manufacturing Company produced high quality revolvers chambered for .22 LR rimfire ammunition starting early 1915 These revolvers are sometimes referred to as "Norton Model 1914." Many war veterans returned home after hostilities ceased with new demand for these weapons which continued until at least 1923 when all production stopped because World War II began

In 2007, the Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce set up a fund to help revive downtown Shawnee's economy by investing in arts and cultural events, marketing Downtown as an arrival point for tourists visiting eastern Kansas, and providing assistance with city hall staff recruitment and retention efforts.
On January 14, 1868, Shawnee was the first of six towns in Lawrence County to be established. The town was named for General James Butler Shawnee, who had led the army that helped win the American Revolution.
