On November 14, 1907 a tornado touched down near present day downtown SalINA; it killed five people and injured over 100 others before dissipating just south of town at 6 p .m . That day marked one of only two times since 1906 thattornadoes have struck any populated area within Clay County – also occurring on November 24th 1909 when a category 3 storm hit Topeka’s Central Park district killing four people and injuring dozens more before dissipating shortly after impact."
