On February 9th 1870 George Wickersham organized and took possession of what is now known as The Dalles Township No 7 according to deeds dated February 10th 1870 with George Wickersham as administrator On October 15th 1890 Cyrus Burt acquired 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of present day Salina along with other townships including Armour Heights No 2 & 3 located easton County Road 9 about 8 miles south/west of present day salina Burt erected two log homes on his property which remain standing today as part of downtown Salina's Old Courthouse Annex Historic District . This purchase marked one step in developing what would become modern day Salina – becoming one of America's leading cattle towns before Wichita became significant
