The first post office in Salina was established on July 8, 1886, and remained open until it closed on November 15, 1913. The present post office was established on December 1, 1912; and has been in operation since that date. Salina is located at (39.869610 -96°11′14″N 95°54′48″W). According to the US Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 992 people residing in the town: 553 (63%) male and 464 (37%) female. The median age in the town was 38 years; 25% were under the age of 18; 11% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 28% were from 25 to 44; 26% were from 45 to 64; and 3% were 65 years or older. The racial makeup of Salina was 97% White, 2% African American, 0% Native American
