Salina, Kansas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Kansas. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest city in Kansas and one of the most rural settlements in the state. The town is named after General James B. Saline who served as a lieutenant general during the American Civil War and also won fame for his victory at Battle of Sedgwick County Court House on October 16, 1861. The first settlers to Salina were prospectors who discovered gold in 1868 and soon had a mining operation going. By 1890, salina's economy was based on agriculture with some manufacturing taking place such as wagon wheels made from iron ore mined near the town site. However, by 2000 salina's economy had changed completely due to oil discovery nearby which led to increased production of products related to oil and gas extraction. In recent years there has been growth in new businesses including restaurants, retail stores and an arena which opened in 2009 that became home to the local high school team called the Wildcats (now known as Wichita State). Salina, Kansas is a town in Wyandotte County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1867 by Germans who had come to the area from Germany. Salina is named after the saline water that flows through nearby Wichita Falls. The first post office in Salina was established on December 6, 1867, and remained open until it was discontinued on September 15, 1870. The first store in Salina was built by Wm. Fenton and opened on October 26 of that year. A school was built on May 8, 1870 by Ptena & Co., also known as the First Presbyterian Schoolhouse District No 2 of Salina Township No 1 (now Wyandotte County). On November 16 of that year, Phineas Gage arrived at Wichita Falls with his wagon train and found salt beds worth over $2 million dollars! He named the stream "Gage" which became the basis for Salina's name. In 1876, when Kansas achieved statehood under Nebraska's new Republican Party system, Salina became part of Douglas County; however it reverted back to German hands following World War I when Nebraska dichotomized its racial boundaries along lines set by Ulysses S Grant's Executive Order 9066 Aliens were classified according to their race and not their national origin - thus all Germans living north of Dodge City were reclassified as aliens and forced out of their homes while those south were given citizenship which they never received because they lacked physical presence in Nebraska. This process continued until most Germans left Nebraska during or just prior to World War II due to various reasons including political changes within Nebraska since then as well as economic factors such as food shortages caused by agriculture wars being fought elsewhere in America at that time; however some did remain behind primarily due to nostalgia for what they saw as a better life before internment camps began shortly thereafter. In 1919–1920 a real estate company called Kapp Brothers bought land east of Wichita Falls from the government for development into an agricultural center known then as North Dakota Territory; however due to drought conditions and lack thereof in North Dakota during this time period crops failed and nothing came from the site other than dust Devil sightings for years afterwards- leading many people outside Wichita Falls convinced that Kapp Brothers didn't actually build anything there! In 1923 another company called Phelps-Rhodes developed an oil refinery near Wichita Falls but again no products resulted from this project either- one reason given being inadequate soil quality combined with overuse during Prohibition era when oil production boomed throughout America despite strict regulations placed upon industry executives like Kapp Brothers! On July 3rd 1907 construction began on what would become Park High School located east of downtown Salina- becoming one of only two high schools west of Interstate 40 open to students aged 10 or younger up until today! Although completed three years earlier than planned due largely to money issues brought about by prohibition repeal (a decision made primarily by Governor John Chouteau), Park has been continuously operated ever since both through fundraising efforts associated with high school alumni association meetings held every summertime around nowdays' date representing more than 30 years Of hard work And dedication By Our Alumni Associations Members Who Are So Proud To Represent Us In All That We Do!!!
