That hotel still stands today with over hundred rooms and suites available including an event hall used for weddings since 1999 which can seat up to 2,000 people. In 1911 Johnnie Cochran set up shop here as a cattle drivesenterprise before moving away to Oklahoma City where he became one of America's best-known sportswriters

Prairie is located on the Missouri River and has a temperate climate with mild winters and hot summers. The community began as a trading post in 1854 and was named for George P. Prairie who had resided there since 1835. The first residents were Methodists from North Carolina who took up residence at the post in 1855. A school was established in 1865 and became known as Prairie School District No. 2 which merged into Shawnee County School District No. 1 in 1957 when that district was created from all of Wichita’s old school districts The community experienced rapid growth after it was annexed by Wichita in 1907 A library opened in 1911 and remained open until it closed due to budget cuts in 2013 Prairie also has an outdoor basketball court and playground which are used by locals and visitors alike

The area became known as Kansas because of its location in the east central section of the United States. Prairie was settled by farmers and their animals in what is now eastern Kansas. The first permanent settler in Prairie was James Auld, who arrived in 1857.
