In recent years there have been several severe freezes that affected many residents including one that hit the ground November 15th 2009 leaving more than 20 people homeless for several days due to ice coverage on roads and sidewalks throughout much of town[1]. As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,711 people, 586 households, and 459 families residing in the town. The population density was 485 people per square mile (220/km²). There were 622 housing units at an average density of 277 per square mile (115/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White!
