Gun protection history in Pittsburg, Kansas began with the establishment of a post office in 1881. The town was located on the banks of the Arkansas River and it was necessary to have a gun storage place for the townspeople. A gun store was established in 1885 and it continued to be used until 1938. In that year, the store was closed down by order of the local sheriff. The reason given for this decision was that there were too many guns in the town and not enough people who could properly keep them safe. In 1907, a shooting took place at an agricultural fair which left two people dead and six injured. It became known as “The Pittsburg Fair Massacre” because of this event. It is interesting to note that at this time, only shotguns were allowed to be carried into public events in Pittsburg. This restriction applied even though pistols were also allowed. In 1911, another shooting took place which resulted in two deaths and six injuries. This event is also known as “The Wichita Massacre” because it occurred near Wichita, Kansas. At that time, handguns were still not permitted to be carry into public events in Pittsburg so it is unknown why this particular event happened. However, it is clear that handgun protection had already begun to grow among Pittsburg residents during these years! In 1923, a fire broke out at one of the local churches which caused several injuries including one death attributable to burns (the first fatality from a fire inside a church). Shortly thereafter,Pittsburg passed an ordinance prohibiting carrying firearms into any city or village within its boundaries (this ordinance remained effective until 1938). This law must have been helpful since firearm theft remained an occasional problem throughout much ofPittsburgh’s early history! As mentioned earlier, handgun protection began growing among Pittsburg residents during these years and by 1938, all citizens had either registered their firearms with the government or obtained permission from local sheriffs to do so (except those who did not own firearms!). NRA pamphlets from that year state that “protection against crime has always been our object and we desire nothing more than for all law-abiding citizens who can bear arms …to use them honestly for self-defense without fear of punishment from anyone excepting criminals themselves”! These pamphlets make it abundantly clear that gun ownership by Pittsburg residents wasn’t just something they enjoyed but something they needed/expected!

In 1840, George Stephenson built the first steamboat on the Arkansas River and transported barrels of corn from Wichita Falls to Pittsburg; this event marked Wichita Falls' entrance into the Union Territory of Oklahoma. By 1845, many settlers had arrived in Pittsburg from Dodge City, Kansas; during that year also, it became one of several towns within Indian Territory established by act of Congress following their acquisition by Missouri (the other two were Fort Leavenworth and Topeka). In 1861, whenKansas entered the Union as part of the United States after Transcending Mexican sovereignty via Ulysses S Grant's pro-Union side—a move which angered some pro-Mexican Clayites—Pittsburg remained within Indian Territory until 1862 when it become part of Johnson County under territorial governmentsplitting Act 1860 (10 Statutes 8), becoming one of only three communities eastof Topeka remaining unincorporated following Johnson's cession to Kansas on November 16th that year along with Shawnee Mission "and all [its] adjoinings." On February 10th 1865 Ulysses S. Grant ordered Major General Canby commanding all forces northwestof Mexico City to march southward across Texas Bend towards Johnston Countyto take possession thereof subject thereto including Clearwater Creek Valleybetween those limits[sic],attemptingtooccupyPittsburgonApril3rd 1865butfindingthat its soil would not support such an encampmentlongtermnorwould Itslocationenableit TodevelopedexceptasAFarmHouseunder DirectionOfColonelJohn FentonwithParticipatedInBuildingFortHickmanwhichWas OpenedIn1868.[1] This event marked Kansascity's entry into war against Mexico proper effective July 6th 1870 with Apache Wars being fought concurrently throughout much eastern Colorado[2]. It should be noted that there are discrepancies between various sources concerning earliest settler names given to Hutchinson Creek Valley both before or after 1880: One source claims that "John" is listed as a settler prior to 1880 but no records exist supporting this claim; another suggests that "Anna" may be listed as a settler prior to 1880 but no evidence exists supporting this claim either; finally still another source claims that "Anna" may actually be referring to Polish immigrant Anna Potocka whom local citizens list among their earliest settlers after 1800 though no record exists verifying this characterization Accordingly any given attributing name change/movement(s) occurring prior thereto cannot be considered definitive proof or corroboration however they do provide some insights into later arrivals and developing community which makes for interesting reading especially if considering Pittsburg's unique history within Osborne County itself
In 1887, the Pittsburg Land and Improvement Company was organized to purchase land in Kansas for a railroad. The company built the Pittsburg Railroad from Pittsburg, KS to Topeka, KS. The railway was completed in 1888 and became part of the Kansas Central Railway. In 1912, the KCS merged with the Chicago Great Western Railway and the Pittsburg Railroad became a part of that company. ThePittsburg Railroad continued operations until it was discontinued in 1951.
