After the war ended, many residents returned to their farms and businesses. The Pittsburgh Civic Club formed in 1923 and quickly became one of Pittsburg's most important organizations. In 1925, its members organized an election to select a new board of trustees for the school district; this board ultimately led toPittsburgh becoming part of Topeka Municipal District #2 (Municipal District #4 today). In 1942, when Topeka annexed much of Johnson County including Pittsburg into its jurisdiction, little did anyone know that would bePittsburgh's last census-taker residency until after World War II ended - when its citizens re-apportioned themselves into their current boundaries!
Pittsburg was founded in 1854 by John F. Kennedy and his family. The town obtained its name from the location on the Pittsburg River, which is now a part of Wichita. In 1881, Pittsburg became a railroad town and remained so until the early 1920s when it began to experience Decline in Population. With the opening of Wichita's bypass in 1922, much of what once flourished around Pittsburg disappeared. Today, only a few scattered buildings remain from original Pittsburg Village.
