Parsons, Kansas is a town in Cowley County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It lies along U.S. Route 24 and is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first settler in Parsons was James Ewing in 1857. He and his family moved to the town from Topeka in 1859. Parsons was named for General Orson Welles who visited the area during a cattle drive in 1867. The post office called Parsons "the Inland City" from 1865 until 1903. One of the largest mercantile concerns in central Kansas before World War I was J W Kelly & Co., founded by John W Kelly Sr.. The company operated several stores and warehouses between Parsons and Wichita; one building still stands on Main Street near US 24: "John W Kelly Warehouse". In 1912, it merged with National Grocery Co., which had been organized four years earlier as a grocery store distributorship led by Sam Walton (founder of Walmart). At its peak, National Grocery had over 100 employees; however, this number increased only marginally due to competition from larger convenience stores through the early 21st century . From 1954–1958, Parsons-based airplane manufacturer Airwest Incorporated located its planes at nearby Mid-Continent Airport while being leased back to Tulsa Airways Corp for use as passenger transport services between Tulsa and Wichita International Airport - making it one of only two airports in Central America served by an American airliner at that time . By 1959, Airwest Holdings Incorporated had discontinued operations there due to economic conditions; however its assets were transferred to newly formed American Airlines parent companyPriority Air Lines LP (AAL) under terms that allowed AAL management full discretion regarding continuing or discontinuing service at Mid-Continent Airport - further underscoring the importance of air transportation within Wichita's borders during this period."

Parsons, Kansas is a town in Pratt County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. Parsons was founded in 1854 by French Canadian settlers and named for General James Fenton Parsons of legendary distinction during the American Civil War. It became a city in 1913. The community of Parsons began as a small settlement on the banks of the Arkansas River near present-day Wichita. A post office was established at Parsons in 1854, and mail arrived from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania twice weekly. In 1861, when Union forces drove gold miners out of central Kansas, many farmers turned to agriculture in what would become Parsons. By 1865, some 400 people lived in Parsons; it had grown to 2,000 by 1870. In 1913, when Wichita became a city Limits were set up within which towns could not grow larger than they had voted to within six months; this created difficulties for Parsons as it attempted to annex much of neighboring DeSoto County including Hutchinson and Salina; however City Council voted 3-1 against annexation because they felt that such an action would create too much competition among its citizens for jobs with Wichita (population 10 million). In 1930 the old railroad line through town was abandoned and converted into state highway #68B; now known as Main Street there are several businesses along that route that still operate today including The Post Office Inn & Restaurant (founded 1938), Wagon Wheel Grill (established 1935), and Peter's Pizza (established 1954). An early resident of Parsons was Reverend John Latham who built his home on Old White Road across from Present-day Hutchison Elementary School where he preached sermons until his death in 1856. The first black person to live in Topeka died there about 1860s when his slave woman allowed him access to education despite being considered "unable" by white society due to her African heritage according’tto her husband’s European background
