In 1912, Wichita annexed portions of Johnson County including Parsons Junction. When Wichita merged with Topeka in 1973, Parsons became its second largest city as well as its third mayor after Topeka's first mayor and current Mayor Greg Stanton (D). The population of topeka continues to grow faster than that of Parsons soTopeka annexed parts of Hutchinson Township which now forms part of Hutchinson City Limits
