In 1970, Overland Park became one of only two Uptowns in America to be designated an " inner ring" community due to its strong retail economy and location within walking distance of several downtown businesses including the University ofKansas campus and Mission Hills Country Club In recent years, Overland Park has seen an increase in development with several new subdivisions being constructed as well as several redevelopment projects which have brought more jobs and homes into town while preserving much historical content such as Greer's Barber Shop and Dietz' grocery store which were both preserved during renovations done in 2017/2018
