In 1870, Phebe Auld moved to Overlands from Topeka with her husband John Auld and their five children; they had come looking for new land to farm following the Panic of 1873. They started out clearing land around what is now K-State UNI campus before moving on to build a home on Buffalo Street near Wabash Avenue (now Ninth Street). By 1875, they had acquired all but 2 acres (0 km2) of what would become downtown Overland Park when they sold their holdings to Henry Clay Frattin for $5 per acre ($ 127/km2). The original frattin house still stands today at 202 Main Street corner 9th Avenue – it has been restored and is currently used as part of UI’s Palmer Museum Campus office complex.). One possible reason why downtown Overland Park developed slowly until after World War II may have been due to its location across Interstate 25 from major urban areas such as Wichita and Topeka which made transportation challenging without heavy reliance on public transport or private cars; this isolation also contributed to economic stagnation during these years for Downtown Overlanders who did not benefit from major development projects outside their borders like Wichita began experiencing during the late 20th century growth spurt throughout Johnson County…..although there are several earlier examples including First National Bank building at 12th & Elm Streets NE (1892), Singer Sewing Mill Building at Third & Locust Streets NW (1898), Armour Foundry Building at Seventh & Locust Streets NW (1907), First National Bank Tower building (now part Of UI’s Palmer Museum Campus office complex.)

Overland Park, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas and the county seat of Overland County. The population was 27,693 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Wichita, Kansas. The first permanent settler in what is now Overland Park was David Rice in 1857. The town was founded on an abandoned wagon train stop about one mile south of present-day Overland Park on the east side of Interstate 25 (now I-69). In 1871, it became part of Shawnee Nation territory and was renamed Fort Leavenworth; it reverted to its original name in 1907 when Shawnee country passed from Indian control to the United States. In 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant chose Overland Park as his headquarters for his Expedition against Mexico during the American Civil War because he thought it would be a good base for operations due to its strategic location on I-25 and railroad access to other parts of Kansas. For most of 1865 and into 1866, General John Buell's Union army conducted raids through central Kansas into Missouri where they hoped to find supplies and reinforcements for their war effort against Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee; these raids resulted in several civilian casualties or damages that could not have been recovered had there not been an overabundance ofOrdnance stores at Overlanders park Depot - this depot being key to Union military success during the Campaign against Mexico Aftermath: On November 22nd 1865 by order Of Maj Gen James Hurlbut all Ordnance materials were destroyed here which included nearly 8000 barrels shot off cannons This destroys any chance that Union raiders may have got through undetected also helped win Battle at Prairie Grove Also this event caused much public outcry as many people felt that government should have been more careful with their munitions storage facility(s) On December 1st 1865 By order OF Maj Gen James Hurlbut all Ordnance materials were again stored at Depot but this time only ammunition remained
The Overland Park area was first settled by the Kansas Fur traders in the early 1800s. The area was originally part of the Shawnee Nation and was known as "Cheyenne Land." In 1854, a group of settlers, led by Kit Carson, founded the town of Overland Park on land that now includes much of downtown Overland Park. The town growth was helped by Workman's Expeditions, which were organized to map out a railroad route from Missouri to Kansas City. The town name is derived from the fact that many of the original settlers lived near trees called "overlanders" because they thought these trees would provide shade during summertime.
