Overland Park, Kansas is a town in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 13,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Johnson County after Overbrook. The first post office in Overland Park was established on July 1, 1872. The present day town was organized on November 3 of that year. The original plat for the town was designed by Alfred Vail and published in "The Kansas City Times" on October 9, 1872. In 1876, over 10% of the entire population of Johnson County were living within the boundaries of Overland Parktownship (now part of Wichita). This growth was due to a railway project that connected Topeka with Shawnee Mission Junction via Overland Park and Garden City stations. By 1880, over 50% of all workers in Hutchinson were employed within the limits of Overland Parktownship; this increase represented an increase of more than 25%, from 15% to 30%. On May 14, 1907 LeRoy Aiken became Mayoralty candidate for Smith County against incumbent James Guthrie Ewing; results showed Aiken garnering 43% (of votes) to Guthrie's 56%. In 1908 local merchants formed a civic association which chose Harry Schieffer as their president; he served until 1918 when he resigned due to health reasons. On December 3rd Charles Wirth became Mayoralty candidate for Smith County against incumbent James Guthrie Ewing; results showed Wirth garnering 53% (of votes) to Guthrie's 47%. In 1912 local merchants formed another civic association which chose George Hirsch as their president; he served until his death in 1928. A new Post Office building located at 5th Street and River Road opened on December 12th 1921 and had a population of 52 residents including Mr/ Mrs John J Duffy who ran it for one term with success before selling it to Mr/Ms Lillian Pfeiffer who operated it until her own death in 1967 followed by her son’s ownership and operation until 1984 when it went into receivership pending sale or condemnation resulting in its demolition.; Today there are several small businesses operating out OfoverParkKS providing goods and services such as restaurants etc but much like any community there are also constants going on such as family gatherings during summertime or Christmas time these events fill up quickly so please be prepared

In 1970, Overland park had a total population of 71,824 residents including 27% Hispanics or Latinos
