Kansas is a large, Midwestern state located in the Western United States. The state is bordered by Nebraska to the east, Missouri to the south and west, Colorado to the north and east, and Texas to the northwest. As of the 2010 census, Kansas had a population of 671,549. Its capital and largest city is Topeka. The name "Kansas" was derived from an Otoe word meaning "place where cattle may graze." The area that would become Kansas was first settled by Native Americans in this region as early as 3000 BC. In 1763, when Spain ceded Florida to Britain after losing its war with France over that territory, Spain also gave land in what is now Kansas to Great Britain through Treaty of Paris. This land included present-day Oklahoma City and Wichita Falls. In 1836, during the Mexican–American War (1846–48), Mexico won independence from Mexico and claimed all of North America for itself; however, most of this continent including what is now Kansas remained under Spanish control until 1849 when it was finally given back to Mexico via Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo following their victory in that war. At this time most of present-day Oklahoma Territory (including Wichita Falls) became part of Texas while much of southern Kansas remained within Mexican hands as well. Many settlers from eastern New York/New England flocked into central Kansas during this time due to cheap farmland available there – land which still remains abundant today thanks largely to oil discoveries in those regions over the past few decades! The coming years saw many changes for those living in central KS: railroads were built connecting KC&M Railway lines with other parts of the country; towns grew up around railroads; industry flourished; football teams made town names like Topeka & Shawnee their homeport; colleges such as Yale University established themselves here; etc.; but one will always remain dominant throughout all these developments: agriculture! And that’s exactly what has been happening in Overland Park since its incorporation as a town on July 15th 1870! Today’s economy revolves around agricultural production – including livestock (beef cattle are especially popular here), poultry, grains (a varietyof wheat), ethanol production (ethanol being produced bothfrom gasoline used in cars and natural gas used domestically), oil exploration/production (oil supposedly being found near Lawrence County just outside Topeka!), healthcare services (both acute care hospitals and long term care facilities)……and more! It’s no wonder why Overland Park has been dubbed “the Gateway City” because not only does it offer easy accessto major highways leading out into surrounding states but also because so much economic activity takes place here ensuring continued growth at all levels!

Overland Park was founded in 1871 by George Leavenworth and other landowners. The city is located in the northwest corner of Kansas, bordered to the northeast by Topeka and the southeast by Shawnee. The population of Overland Park was 103,814 as of 2010. It is one of two cities in Kansas with a population over 100,000 (the other being Wichita). The area that would become Overland Park was long considered part of the Shawnee Nation and until recently there were no schools or businesses in the town center. However, over time people from nearby towns began moving into Overland Park to take advantage of its rich mineral content and natural resources. Today, Overland Park is known for its wide variety of cultures - from its large Indian population which continues to reside in some areas including North Lawrence neighborhoods near State University and DePauw University, to its large Hispanic community which has grown heavily since 2000 when Hispanics made up 25% of the city's residents. In 1871, George Leavenworth organized an effort to purchase 1 million acres (4 square miles) in what is now north-central Kansas so that he could create a new township on it. After much discussion among his fellow landowners they decided on Overland Park as their site for this new township. The name "Overland Park" came about because most everyone agreed that if someone wanted to go "overlander" - meaning travel through westernKansas - then they needed something unique about their location that would make it stand out from all other places within those boundaries. Today, most people believe that George Leavenworth did actually create Overland Park specifically because he hoped it would be a place where rich men could come together and establish themselves as a force for good in central Kansas. It quickly became clear that this hope wasn't realized however; but rather many prominent businessmen instead moved into downtown Topeka where business opportunities were more plentiful and political power was more easily accessible than at any point since Topeka had been established as an agricultural center centuries before! The economic success of downtown Topeka led eventually to development along both sides of Main Street east-west which bypassed much of what is now OverLAND PARK while also developing much further west into what are now North Lawrence neighborhoods
On November 1, 1867, the first post office in Overland Park was established. In 1871, the first store was built. On July 24, 1907, the first streetcar line in Overland Park became a reality. The city's first fire department was founded on October 8, 1907.
