Ammunition has a long and proud history in Overland Park, Kansas. The town was founded in 1854 by George Armstrong Custer, who named it for himself and his regiment, the Fourth Cavalry. Ammunition shipments from New York City began arriving in Overland Park in 1855, and soon residents were purchasing artillery ammunition to supplement their rifles and shotguns. In 1861, when Kansas seceded from the United States, ammunition became an important issue as Confederate forces brought firearms to the city to fight against Union troops. With World War I coming on the horizon, Overland Park businesses began manufacturing munitions such as shell cases and rifle rounds. After the war ended, Overland Park officials turned their attention to developing new ways to use explosives in fireworks production. A new facility was built at 59th Street and State Route 83 in 1919 that allowed for mass production of fireworks shells and rockets. The factory also produced incendiary grenades known as “Flammable Fusees”; these devices caused extensive damage during World War II when they were used against Japanese targets. In 1954, over one hundred years after OPD first started shipping ammunition here from New York City, we opened our own ammo store inside the old Armoury Building on Main Street! Overland Park, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas and the county seat of Overland County. The population was 74,839 at the 2010 census, making it the most populous city in Overland Park Township and the second most populous municipality in Shawnee County after Olathe, Kansas. It is also one of three cities (the others being Topeka and Wichita) with a total population over 100,000 as of 2016. The first settlers to what is now Overland Park were families from Illinois who arrived on November 15, 1854 during the mid-term election campaign of that year as part of a wagon train headed for St. Joseph's City in present-day Missouri. They named their new settlement "Overland Park" after General James K. Polk's presidential campaign slogan " Across the Prairie ". The town erected its first courthouse on State Street in 1855 and became an active center for trade within Shawnee County; it also developed a significant reputation as a place where farmers could get their goods delivered without having to leave their homes or go through long journeys to market. In 1865, Postmaster General Gideon Welles ordered that all post office addresses be changed to reflect their location within Shawnee County so that residents would no longer have to travel more than two miles (3 km) away to receive mail; this led to increased business activity and population growth in Overlanders near by." In 1907, prominent local businessmen built an enlargement of Topeka's First National Bank on Main Street which served as the bank's main headquarters until 1978 when it moved into its current building at Fourth and Main Streets SE in Overlands' downtown district. That same year saw another important milestone for Overlanders when they elected Mayor John Sedgeford (D) to succeed his predecessor Alyn Hargrave (R). When he took office, Sedgeford had been working behind the scenes for several months trying to gain support from other municipalities for annexation into Shawnee County; because Topeka did not want any part of what was becoming known as "Topeka Township", he quickly won broad support among both its citizens and politicians throughout Shawnee County by pledging never again To annex anything without unanimous agreement from all concerned municipalities – something he still holds dear today! One major issue facing Overlanders during Sedgeford's tenure was Tongue River Valley Electric Cooperative which went bankrupt following multiple rate increases totaling almost 50% between 2002 and 2003 uncooperative customers refused service due primarily to lack of affordable electricity options available close by while utility managers fought tooth-and-nail against any public outcry over pricing gouging indexation policies%. One such strategy employed by management was refusing accession requests from towns outside Of Our Lord’s Parish boundaries due to fears that if these towns joined forces with neighboring Topeka they would become too powerful politically speaking – something which didn't happen but showed just how much animosity there still remained between some factions within township government despite years of effortsconstructive cooperation." On November 3rd 2006 voters passed Question 1st Term Amendment 4th District Court & Judicial System REPEALING THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 5 OF THE CITY COUNCIL ACT OF 1975 . This amendment repealed portions of section 5(a), 5(b), 8(a), 8(b) AND 10 OF THE CITY CODE OF OVERLAND PARK KANSAS . These sections had allowed City Council members direct control over court proceedings & decisions made therein including referenda & nonbinding ordinances adopted contrary thereto . On December 2nd 2006 City Council met pursuant TO SECTION 9 OF THE AMENDMENT NOVEMBER 3RD 2006 BILL TO CONSTRUCT AND ENHANCE OVERLAND PARK PUBLIC SAFETY ZONE . This zone will provide safe areas located near commercial districts with high concentrations of pedestrian traffic or vehicular traffic along I-435W or I-435N . Within this Zone will be: A public health area consistingof specific buildings used for medical care such as hospitals Emergency rooms Ambulance stations Police substations Fire departmentsе&A crosswalk connecting I-435W/I-435N Additionally within this Zone will be: A park consistingof specific buildings usedfor recreational purposes such as playgrounds pools beaches ball fields multipurpose facilitiesá&A crosswalk connecting I-435W/I-435N The zones are expected closed streets will remain open adjacent thereto while construction occurs
