Olathe is a city in Kansas, United States. It is the seat of Olathe County and the largest city in Dent County. The population was 43,651 at the 2010 census. Olathe is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Olathe were Creek Indians who inhabited what are now northeast Lawrence and northwest Topeka counties during the 18th century. A post office called "Olathe" was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1872, LeRoy McClellan founded an oil well near present-day Olathe and began drilling for oil there. Oil production commenced on January 3, 1901; this was soon followed by other businesses associated with McClellan's enterprise: meatpacking house Post #1 (later renamed McClellan Meat Market), a flour mill built by Wm Hays & Sons (now owned by Hennepin Grain LLC), a sawmill, a farmacia (pharmacy) open from 1881 to 1902, two automobiles (the first being an Oldsmobile), and three hotels: one opened on December 15, 1901 as The Olathe Hotel; another became The Blue Star Hotel on October 9, 1902; and finally the current Olathe Hotel on August 8, 1904. On November 5 of that year - only days after Woodrow Wilson became president - Congress passed an act authorizing Kansas Territorial Governor John Sibley to grant city status toOlathine "on such terms as may be prescribed". On February 6 of 1905 Kansascity reported that City Hall had been completed; prior to this date all administrative functions had been handled by Topeka personal secretary AYMUELL LINCOLN without City Council approval or participation. The original City Seal featured a panther rampant within a wreath of laurel branches with motto "Enemyless In Peace And All About War". That seal lasted until 1907 when it was replaced with an image featuring dual cannons which represent military strength while also symbolizing commerce and industry along with the motto " vigilantes against fraud". On July 14th 1906 Mayor Ebenezer Capps announced plans for incorporation into Topeka because he felt that residing within Topeka would give his new city more visibility both nationally and internationally... This resulted in 1st Ward Alderman William Broughton protesting furiously outside City Hall over what he perceived as corruption at City Hall... After several hours of shouting matches between Alderman Broughton and Mayor Capps ensued,... A compromise reached involved givingCity Hall back its original name but having all powers vested in the full Municipal Council instead... On November 29th 1906 Olathe got charter number 8620 from state governor James Guthrie... This marked use of both federal government forms (registration card + certificate of incorporation) rather than just local government forms for municipal elections beginning January 1st 1907... On March 21st 1909 citizens voted overwhelmingly not to annex any adjoining towns or villages surrounding them due to their concerns about annexation already happening within their own community - though some adjacent communities did gain incorporated status including Lenexa & Downingtown which merged into Topeka on January 1st 1912 while Overland Park annexed Huntley on December 12th 1912

Olathe, Kansas is a small town in Osborne County, Kansas, United States. The population was 953 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita–Hutchinson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Olathe was founded in 1871 as a post office and community by citizens of nearby Hutchinson. The name Olathe comes from Ottawa (Ontario) Indian Township. The first settler in Olathe was John Witherspoon and his family who came from Canada in 1867. They were followed by others over the next few years until all but one of the original settlers had departed for other reasons or died before they could arrive. A group of 11 men led by Captain James Hultgren arrived on July 1, 1870 and set up a log cabin about two miles south of present day Olathe on what is now US Highway 82 (now State Highway 356). The new settlement quickly developed into a small town with around 100 residents when it became an official seat of government on February 12, 1872 under the Organic Laws Of Kansas Territory. The first municipal building was built on Main Street in downtown Olathe by 1888 and served as the court house until 1907 when it burned down due to negligence by city officials. A new courthouse was built north of current day First Avenue and Main Street between 1912 and 1916 after funds were raised through local subscription drives to help finance construction costs associated with World War I then later during World War II when materials became available from surplus naval vessels being stored at Naval Base Defiance east off Wichita Falls, Texas In 1924, Olathe became one of three towns within the newly formed Osage County following passage of Acts 3 & 4 Of 24 June 1924 which created Osage County & authorized its own general election schedule for all political subdivisions within its boundaries including Olathe On November 7th 1920 voters approved creation of Ballot Question No 2 asking if school children may vote for local members to serve on various boards within their township including those responsible for education such as teachers & superintendents; property owners also voted yes on this question although no real action occurred until after voting took place In 1927 voters approved addition to township limits located immediately south along US-82 about four miles west of present day Olathe village Limits did not change much until after incorporation into Village Of Olivera In 1928 trustees elected Mayor Coyle Byram who served two terms beginning January 1st 1929 ending December 31st 1931 while trustee Cheney Shephard held office continuously since that date
Olathe is located in the Topeka, Kansas metropolitan area. Olathe was platted on August 15, 1859, as a town on the south side of the Kansas River. The original settlers were Dutch people who had come to Kansas in 1854. The towns of Olathe and Overland City were founded soon after, but they both failed to take off and eventually merged into Olathe in 1959.
