Some of the most well-known examples include the Texas Rangers' use of slingshots and the Kansas City Chiefs' use of "Dirty Harry" style bows. The firstguns were made in Olathe, Kansas, in 1892. TheOlathe Rifle Company was founded by Judge John W. Snyder and others who were interested in making firearms that could be fired with a sling. The rifle company soon became known as "The Arsenal". In 1907, gunfighter James A. Garfield was fatally shot while swinging a bow at an assailant near Olathe Municipal Airport. Soon after, local residents began using slingshots to protect themselves from crime and assassins alike. Gunslingers such as Jesse James[1]and Billy Graham[2]employed their skills to help protect cowboys, farmers, miners and other civilians during the 1920s and 1930s against outlaw Bandidos; however, such activities eventually came to an end due to prohibitionism. By 1934, only about 10 people still wielded slingshots in Olathe.[3] However, some continue to do so today as a form of self-defense or target practice

Olathe, Kansas is a town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Olathe was founded in 1867 and named for George Washington Olcott. Olathe had a railroad depot on the Canadian Pacific Railroad when it first became a town in 1867. A post office was established at Olathe on October 24, 1868, and remained in operation until it closed on July 6, 1969. The first settlers to Olathe were George Washington Olcott and his brother-in-law Drury Clements. They came from Massachusetts in 1857 and started a farm near Topeka that they called "Olcott's Farm". In 1865, they moved to what is now Sedgwick County and founded the town of Olathe on land that they bought from the Kiowa Apache tribe. Their home was located on present day First Street between Main Street and Santa Fe Trail east of present day Interstate 70 south of downtown Wichita. The town plat was filed November 7, 1865 under authority granted by Governor Andrew Johnson via Executive Order No. 8687 (dated January 20, 1865). A post office called "Olathe" was established at the village of Ogden on April 25th 1870 by order of Territory Marshal John Waddell (the first Territorial Postmaster General). It continued in operation until it discontinued operations on December 31st 1898 due to changes in mail service within Indian Territory during the Mexican–American War period; however, letters continued to be delivered through Ogden until 1893 when all mail services within Indian Territory were discontinued effective January 1st following enactment of Public Law 89-566 (commonly known as "The Lecompton Act"). “George Washington Olcott’s Place” has been preserved as an historical site adjacent to nearby I-70 where he lived with his family before settling down near Wichita Falls Oklahoma

Olathe, Kansas is a small town in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Topeka–Beaverton metropolitan area. Olathe was founded in 1859 as a station on the Santa Fe Railway. It became an incorporated city in 1907. The current mayor is Ron Wynn and the city councilors are Darrell Kline (second term), Kathy Hochsprung (third term), and Dennis Sprinkle (fourth term). Olathe was founded by farmers who began to arrive in 1859 from Illinois. They named their town after General James Kansa, who had led an army against Mexico during the Mexican-American War. Kansa's forces had destroyed most of Mexican Territory east of the Arkansas River before reaching Olathe. The first post office was established in Olathe on December 12, 1860. The town center was platted around what is now Main Street and Telegraph Road; it included only about 60 residents at its founding. By 1870, however, Olathe had grown to more than 500 people and had erected several successful businesses: a grocery store, saddlery shop, woolen millinery store, Mutual Life Insurance Company building (now part of First National Bank), Ford dealership (now home to Chevrolet) and two churches—First Presbyterian and Second Baptist—both built between 1870 and 1872 by Reverend John Wertheimer Jr.. In 1881 local merchant George Auerbach donated land at Indianola Avenue and Main Street for what would become Olathe High School; Classes were started in September 1880 with six students enrolled in grades one through four.. In 1907 Olathe became an incorporated city when it annexed adjacent towns of Cottonwood Heights to its north - this made room for another high school within reach for all citizens without having to leave their homes or commute long distances each day! In 1969 local resident Jerry Weiser donated land along Haskell Boulevard just south of I-635 for what would become Wichita State University; classes began there on October 5th that same year with 124 students enrolling! Today Wichita State University has over 3600 students from 34 states studying law, business administration or other classic undergraduate degrees! Olathe also played host to the annual Independence Day parade which takes place every July 4th since 1909
Olathe, Kansas was founded in 1867 by James H. Webb and his wife Elizabeth. The town is named after the ill-fated Olathe Massacre of 1868, in which three men were killed by a posse led by Webb.
