Olathe is a city in Douglas County, Kansas, United States. The population was 9,567 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County. In 1951, Wichita State University opened up its new campus south of town near Olathe Creek on land that had been donated by Colonel John Hays Armstrong Jr., one of Wichita State's founders and initial donors for the university. Armstrong had previously donated land for what would become Wichita State University Hospital—the only hospital in Wichita state at that time—and he wanted his old donation to be used as well, so Wichita State University formed a trust to manage it which has kept the property undeveloped ever since. Today part of WSU's campus lies across Main Street from where Armstrong once donated his land: WSU Tower stands as a reminder of this history
