Merriam, Kansas is a small town in the US state of Kansas. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of Topeka, and is located on the edge of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first scopes were built in Merriam by Hiram Maxim in 1876. In 1907, Hiram Maxim's son Noah patented a design for a telescope that could beassembled quickly and easily. This new design led to an increase in telescope sales and helped make scopes more affordable for individuals and schools. In 1932, Merriam became home to one of the first high school telescopes when Topeka High School built its own facility. Over time, Topeka High School has become one of the largest single donors to astronomy research institutions across the United States through contributions such as giving dozens of Telescope memberships to various organizations like NASA Ames Research Center and SDSS-IAC Observatory totaling over $100,000+. Today, Merriam remains an important center for astronomical research with multiple observatories including: Haleakala Observatory (the world's second most powerful telescope), Baker Observatory (the third most powerful telescope), Leavenworth National Laboratory's Kitt Peak Observatory (a national network of planetariums) as well as numerous smaller telescopes operated by local residents or businesses. The city also hosts several major annual events related to astronomy such as Astronomy Day (a celebration dedicated to celebrating amateur astronomers) and Big Sky Days which include meetings with government officials about upcoming astronomical discoveries around the area!

The Erie Railroad passed through town in 1886 and merRIAM built a depot on Depot Road near present day Welty Elementary School; it served until 1937 when freight service was discontinued thereabouts due to advances in transportation techniques.

Merriam, Kansas is a small town in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita-Hutchinson metropolitan area. The town was platted on May 10, 1881, by citizens of Lawrence County and named for General James Fenton Mercer (1784-1858), a U.S. Army officer who fought in the Mexican War and in the American Civil War. The post office was established in 1882, and became known as Merriam City. In 1907 the town erected aSentinel Tower to commemorate its victory over Chivington's Rangers during the Wichita Purchase Fair that year. In 1922 Merriam built its first high school which now houses Grady College of Business Administration & Economics; it opened with six students and one teacher. In 1927–29 construction began on what would become the second high school building which opened in 1929 and remains today as Mercy High School; it also served as home to Grady College’s film department until 1985 when it became an annex of Wichita State University’s main campus.) A fire destroyed most of downtown Merriam on November 5th, 1908; however, thanks to community effort and fundraising efforts local businesses rebuilt quickly without any loss of jobs or business hours.* On October 14th 1954 local resident Ollie Sorenson organized a drive to collect funds for an electrification project in Wichita that would improve service quality for residents; this led to creation of KS Power Company whose headquarters still stands today adjacent to Mercy High School.) Merriman donated land for use as Central High School’s football field starting with their opening game against Topeka on September 25th 1959.; they also continue to contribute land each season thereafter until present day*
On February 15, 1869, a group of farmers from the town of Merriam in eastern Kansas organized a local bank. The bank was named the First National Bank of Merriam and opened its doors on March 1. The first president of the bank was Moses Bitternheimer.
