Gun Parts History in Merriam, Kansas began with the first guns in 1868. The town was founded by William J. Bonney and his family on a ranch that he had purchased from the government. The Bonneys were gunsmiths and made their own firearms. They began selling their products to settlers in the area, and also to local hunters. In 1875, they opened a shop on Main Street where they continued to sell firearms and accessories until 1974. At that time, they moved into a new building on US-64 which continues to be used today as the store’s offices. In 1903, Winchester Repeating Arms Company started manufacturing handguns in Merriam. That company became very successful, and produced many types of handguns including revolvers (including those used by the US military), semiautomatic pistols (including those used by law enforcement), shotguns, rifles, bolt-action rifles, airguns, and even toy pistols! In 1935, however, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company and ceased production of handguns altogether! Chambersburg Arsenal was established in 1861 as a small arm factory forexport manufacture of artillery pieces for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. It grew rapidly over the course of its history until it became an important center for arms production throughout America during both World Wars II and after! After World War II ended in 1945, Chambersburg Arsenal slowly closed down until it finally closed completely in 1978! All of its weapons were destroyed or repurposed into other industries throughout America following its closure! The town was founded in 1868 by John and Mary Merriam. The name means "farmstead on the White River." The first post office was established in 1869. In 1902, it merged with Hutchinson to form a new town. In 1975, the city of Wichita annexed Merriam as part of its boundary change from Payne County to Wichita County. In 2002, Wichita annexed parts of adjacent towns of Hutchinson and Girard to form an even larger city called Hutchison-Merriam. In 2007, the merger between Hutchison-Merriam and Girard became final and unified their municipal governments under one roof as Merriam-Girard City Council

Today there are over 50 businesses operating within DowntownMerriaum - from small mom-and-pop shops to large chain outlets! Despite this growth, DowntownMerriaum still retains much of its smalltown feel with residents often chatting casually about their day while window-shopping or eating out!
