The first settler in Merriam was George Wernham and his family who arrived in 1854 from England. They built a home on the present site of town. The first post office in Merriam was established in 1856. In 1871, the community changed its name to MERRIAM after Nathaniel PennimanMERRIAM plumber and builder of Soddy-Dowells mill which became one of the largest flour mills east of the Mississippi River. Supposedly, magazines only hold a certain number of rounds. This is not true! A magazine can hold up to 17 rounds. This number changes depending on the type of ammunition it contains- for example, if you have a 5 round mag, then the magazine will hold 25 rounds. Magazines come in different shapes and sizes too- some have one or two bullets per round while others have as many as ten or twelve. Most handguns come with 8 or 10 round magazines that are used either regularly or when you get a new gun. Magazine size doesn't really matter that much when it comes to shooting because most handguns willFire any ammo that's within its caliber including 9mm Luger cartridges which are actually pretty small for a handgun cartridge!

Merriam was founded in 1853 by John Merrill and his wife, Mary. The town's first post office opened in 1854. It served the towns of Council Bluffs and Merriam until 1861 when it moved to Topeka. In 1871, the city of Topeka was founded and Merrill donated land for the new city. Merrill died in 1897 and his wife continued to live in Merriam until her death in 1951. The town became a city on July 1, 1954. In 1870, John Merrill donated 640 acres (250 hectares) of land to the Kansas State Legislature for the construction of a state Capitol complex. In 1904, Governor James A. Garfield offered naming rights to the new college that would be located on the Merrill property- Kansas State University (later renamed KU). When KU moved from Terre Haute, Indiana to Topeka in 1907, merriman gave up its site for use as an agricultural college and instead developed into one of top research institutions within Kansas university system. Today, KU is one of America's most well known universities with over 100 campuses across 35 states and Washington D._C.. Additionally,merriman has been home to several businesses including Monsanto Co., Taylor Made Golf Company (), Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation (), Kauffman Foundation (), Wichita Eagle Newspapers () The growth of agriculture during hard times led to merriman becoming an important center for livestock production throughout western Kansas during the late 19th century through early 20th century. For example, there were two large dry-goods stores opened at merriman between 1896- 1898 which processed everything from flour patties to fresh eggs (). Farms grew rapidly due to increased demand for feed products brought on by World War I.................................................................................
