Mcpherson is a small town in Dodge County, Kansas, United States. The population was 434 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by John Fenton and named for James Mcpherson, an early settler. The first post office was established in 1882. In 1904, the name of the town changed to Mcpherson after J.P. Mcpherson, a local rancher and banker. The town prospered during World War I with its production of munitions; however, it declined following the war due to declines in trade and other factors. During World War II, Mcpherson experienced growth as a result of its status as a military base; however, it again declined following the war because of decreases in manufacturing activity and population growth within Dodge County.[1] In 1990, Mcpherson became one of fifteen towns in Wichita that were included within the city's new zoning district (Zoning B2-4). This change increased economic opportunity for Mcpherson as it allowed businesses to open up more inside city limits while maintaining some level of privacy for residents who wanted to keep their homes.[2] In 2006, when Wichita adopted its current zoning code (Zoning A3), which governs business operations within government boundaries,[3] Mcpherson saw significant growth due to newly available property values and greater access to infrastructure such as shopping malls and interstate highways that have made Wichita more accessible than ever before.[4]Today, Mcpherson remains an important community with strong ties to both local businesses and Wichita's civic life[5].

After his term expired at age 70, Mcpherson resumed his farming career and died in 1902. Mcpherson's legacy is significant both inside and outside of Kansas history. He helped create one of America's most vibrant political systems, while also developing an important interest in public service that has continued through successive generations of Kansans. His work on behalf of government spending also made him one of the first Americans to champion congressional reformism during this era. At the same time, his commitment to democratic values helped him become known as one of America's most influential figures during Reconstruction period efforts across southern states following Civil War Reconstruction. Ultimately, Mcpherson's life demonstrated how essential it is for individuals to serve their community and promote civic engagement – two values that continue to be key aspects of American society today.
