Mcpherson, Kansas is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. Mcpherson is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1881 by John and Margaret McMherson. It was named for their father, James A. McMherson, who had settled in the area in 1854. In 1886, the McMhersonian family built the first school in Mcpherson. The school operated until 1945. In 1902, John Aitken bought land adjoining Mcpherson from the McMherstonians and established a farming community there called Ashtatoga Springs. Aitken renamed his community after himself, Mcpherson Lake Park (later renamed Ashtatoga). He died in 1928 and his wife continued to run the park until her death in 1943. The town of Mcpherson took over operation of Ashtatoga Springs Road until it was discontinued in 1965; then Ashtatoga Springs reverted back to its original name again before finally being abandoned altogether in 1984. In 1955, McDonald erected a two-story red brick courthouse on Main Street near Valley Creek; it served as the local government center for nearly fifty years before its replacement by a new courthouse constructed downtown during the 1990s which still serves as an important municipal facility today. McDonald also built several other residences including a Methodist church and two schools—onegraded elementary through high school graduation and one offered college preparatory courses leading to professional degrees such as law or medicine—in addition to various retail businesses including a grocery store and post office service truck stop/gas station with attached gift shop/bakery etc.). Mcpherson is a town in Kansas, United States. It was founded in 1854. Mcpherson is the county seat of Baird County. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in what is now Mcpherson were French Canadians who immigrated there from the Quebec region of Canada in the late 19th century. They started a small farm and trading post near present-day Mcpherson Creek. This area became known as "The Green Hills" because of its fresh green grasses and high trees that could be seen for miles around. In 1854, three men, James Acheson, John Acheson and George Prentice decided to move to this location and start a new life. They named their new settlement "Mcpherson" after General Andrew Jackson's youngest son, also named Andrew Jackson Jr., who had been born in 1824 on an Indian reservation east of Springfield, Missouri Territory (now Arkansas). The men built a log cabin with help from local residents and soon started trading with other farmers in nearby villages for goods they needed or wanted delivered to their new community. In 1860, the town began receiving mail from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania which was then part of Maryland; however, due to transportation problems when it transported goods by wagon overland between Stroudsburg and Baltimore City via the Susquehanna River Valley, Mcpherson never received any mail until 1861 when Congress authorized a Postal Service monopoly during the American Civil War. Therefore, most notices about events or happenings outside of Mcdonalds would not reach this community until long after it had passed away! On July 4th 1865 while supplies were being unloaded at Fort Riley on Mount Defiance overlooking Wichita River Valley from where military operations were taking place against Confederate forces near Independence Gap northeast of Topeka City Limits (now Overbrook), five soldiers stationed at Fort Riley saw movement in the horizon and assumed it was an attack by Confederate cavalry riders seeking reinforcements for their army advancing towards Topeka City Limits under cover of darkness; instead they discoveredNative Americans loading provisions onto wagons coming downriver from Manhattan but no enemy cavalry appeared so they returned home without reporting their discovery back to headquarters; later that night Lieutenant Colonel John Denny ordered his unit open fire on what he thought may have been Indians trying to cross river undetected as part of several hundred Native Americans attacking Union troops occupying Fort Riley camp northwest of Wichita River Valley pursuant to an agreement made between Major General George Armstrong Custer's 7th Infantry Brigade Army Corps led by Brigadier General William Tecumseh Sherman southbound along Wichita River South side approximately one mile west fairing Horsepasture Road bridge over river below fortifications across river opposite today's Wichita Falls city limits these reports never reached Kansas State Legislature up until 1862 when Postmaster General Gideon Welles approved creationof USPost Office at present day Dodge City OK During World War II more than 2 million letters were sent through USPost Office system including 515 thousand packages containing vital war materials such as foodstuffs and munitions which arrived safely into Allied countries despite extremely hostile weather conditions including tornado damage within weeks following Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941 resulting in thousands lost lives both military personnel & civilians injured or killed across United States mainland including parts closer than now like Elkton Heights MD & Aberdeen MD both located just eastside Of Wichita Falls within 3 hours drive following main thoroughfare I-35W

Mcpherson was first settled in 1854 by John Mcpherson and his family. The town was named for John's father, McMurchison. In 1857, the Kansas Territorial Legislature created a new county to include the lands now in Mcpherson. The county was named Wabash County. On November 7, 1861, during the American Civil War, Mcpherson residents voted to secede from Kansas and join Confederate States of America. They were later renamed Fort Scott County after its capital.
