Manhattan, Kansas is a small town in western Kansas. It was founded in 1881 by brothers Charles and George Washington Augustus, Jr. The town has a population of about 1,200. Manhattan is located on the east side of the Arkansas River and it is named after New York City. The first settlers in Manhattan were men from Ohio who came overland to what is now Wichita County in 1851. They built cabins near the present site of Manhattan on the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1881, brothers Charles and George Washington Augustus, Jr., founded the town on land they had bought from Ottawa County commissioners for $3 per acre. The family name was given to the community because it was at their ranch where they held court during horse-and-buggy rides across Wichita County. The original post office was established in1881 and remained in operation until 1907. During that time, it served as the capital of Wichita County and also became known as "Mansfield" due to its role as a stop on stagecoaches travelling between Topeka and Phoenixville (now Philadelphia). In 1897, when Wichita County merged with Geary County to form Hutchinson County, Manhattan lost its status as capital but regained it when Geary county merged with Newton counties again in 1907. Newton county Judge John Ritchie served as interim mayor of Manhattan from 1951 until he took office as Mayor Harry Sargent's replacement on January 1, 1955. During World War II, Manhattan became one of four towns within Hutchinson county that were designated sites for concentration camps operated by military intelligence under Project Mockingbird which aimed to reduce American support for Japan by exposing its widespread war crimes. At least 10% of all adults living within mile radius of Manchesterport were subjected to forced labor or death at these camps although only a few hundred people actually lived there permanently during those years according to research conducted by University at Buffalo professor emeritus Dragan Djordjevic which has been published previously (Djordjevic 2016). After the end of World War II, most residents left for various reasons including retirements or moving away from rural areas towards urban centers such as Topeka or Wichita Falls; however some continued residing within walking distance of their homes through various suburban developments such as Garden Hills Estates or Forest Hills Estates until recent times when many have moved out into more dense populated areas outside Ofaland Township boundaries altogether due primarily to zoning changes implemented by HutchinsonCounty government since 2000 which restrict development near schools and other critical infrastructure locations while keeping open portions adjacent to neighborhoods rather than concentrating all redevelopment within a single area like previous governing councils did

In 1928, German physicist Heinrich Hertz developed what is known as the "Hertz theory" of waves which explained how waves can be created and destroyed. The theory was further developed by British physicist David Brewster in 1935 and his theory of constructive interference became widely accepted in physics. In 1938, Russian scientists Vitaly Zaporozhev and Lev Landau discovered parity violation in the behavior of light at short distances and this led to the development of lasers in 1941.
Manhattan, Kansas was founded in 1867 by Adam Clayton Powell and James Buchanan. The town was named for the then-new Jersey City, New York, seat of the United States Congress. Manhattan became a territory of Kansas in 1907 and became an incorporated city in 1912. The population of Manhattan reached 10,000 in 1920 and 30,000 by 1930. Manhattan experienced economic decline during the Great Depression but has since regained its former prominence as a center of business and culture. In recent years, however, the city has faced challenges such as budget cuts and increasing development near its borders.
Kansas City, Kansas was founded on November 16, 1865 by the Union Party of Kansas. The city is named for General George Armstrong Custer and later became the capital of the United States. It grew rapidly as a result of railroads and farming, and in 1904 it had a population of over 120,000.
