Despite its challenges, Mayor Ronny Diaz has fought for hope for downtown during his time as mayor; he has installed new sidewalks and lighting infrastructure; renovated buildings including the old courthouse which now houses apartments; made changes to zoning regulations so that businesses can thrive outside of Downtown; hired more local workers through job fairs/jobs available online (the last being held in October 2018); created new marketing initiatives like "Downtown's biggest party" each year during New Year's Eve where revelers gather outside of Belle Starr Park across from Tower Center mall)
