When the first firearms were imported into Kansas in 1873, they were not considered legal weapons. The only way to own a firearm was to be a veteran of the Union army or be licensed by the state. The legislature passed an act in 1875 making it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to possess a rifle or shotgun without a license from the state. In 1898, Congress passed the Brady bill which required all handguns bought in America must be registered with the government and sold through licensed dealers. In 1907, Kansas became one of 26 states that joined the NRA (National Rifle Association). The last major gun regulation law in Kansas was done in 1974 when everyone over 18 had to have a license to carry pistols and revolvers.

In 2016, there were an estimated 16 mass shootings across the US that left six people dead and 58 injured. The Manhattan, Kansas Gun Club was founded in 1903. The first member is unknown, but the club has continuously been active since then. The club became a fully-fledged gun society in 1907. It was reorganized as the Manhattan Rifle and Pistol Club in 1912. In 1916, it became the Manhattan Firearm and limitations Society. In 1920, it changed its name to the Manhattan Rifle and Pistol Club again. In 1923, it changed its affiliation to the National Rifle Association (NRA). It became an NRA affiliate in 1934.
Manhattan, Kansas is a small town in the US state of Kansas. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 1,852. It is located in Lawrence County. The first land grant to Manhattan was made to David Sills by President James K. Polk on September 20, 1854. The town was platted in 1872 by J.W. Goodwin and Wm Fenton with a total of . Municipal services began in 1909 when the first post office opened at 1 Main Street. In 1912, four-time World Champion golf player Bobby Jones moved to Manhattan from Overland Park, KS and started playing amateur tournaments there which would later become professional tours events held at the nearby Regent Country Club over time. In 1951, Manhattan became an incorporated city with a Mayor-Council system after being approved by voters via referendum on November 3rd ballots as part of a larger consolidation effort in Lawrence County that included nearby towns of Girard (population 725), Leavenworth (population 693), Topeka (population 2,564), and Wichita (population 846). The city annexed adjacent villages of Baldwin (populations: 640) and Hettinger (populations: 323) effective January 1st 1959 pursuant to provisions of the Kansas Legislature's Acreage Bill No. 141 which allowed for annexation for purposes including "the improvement or study of agriculture." On October 25th 1968, an EF4 tornado struck Manhattan killing five people within its jurisdiction - three women teachers from Topeka High School who were out walking their dog; Judy Heckerly from Wichita; Rena Rasmussen from Topeka; and Barbara Ostrofenik from Baldwin - making it oneofthe deadliest tornadoes ever perpetrated within municipal boundaries in United States History up until that point with some exceptions such as Superstorm Sandy that killed more people than any other tornado event during that time period according to FEMA records

Manhattan, Kansas is a small town in the extreme northwest corner of the US state of Kansas. It has a population of just over 1,000 people and is located on the edge of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first residents of what would become Manhattan were farmers who came to the area in 1854 from nearby Fort Leavenworth. The town was named for New York City's Upper East Side, where one family had owned land since 1785. In 1875, Manhattan was combined with neighboring towns Hersey and Hays to form what is now Wichita. Manhattan experienced some growth during World War II as it became an air force base and manufacturing center. However, it declined after the war ended and has been little more than a farming community ever since. Today, there are a few businesses in town but most people live in either Wichita or Lenexa outside of town limit
In 1854, Manhattan was the site of a major cattle drive that transported more than 2,000 head of beef from Texas to Kansas. The town was founded by Union pioneers in 1861 and quickly became a center for trade and industry. By 1881, Manhattan had become the largest city in Kansas and its population topped 100,000. In 1907, the city annexed part of Topeka and formed the new City of Topeka.
