Manhattan, Kansas is a small town located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Kansas. The population was 1,867 at the 2010 census. It is named after Manhattan, New York City, and its zip code is 61601. The town was founded in 1881 by farmers who moved from Illinois to what is now Manhattan because of the sandy soil and good water availability there. The current community was established when two railroad tracks were built through the area in 1881-82 and it quickly grew as a result of their construction. In 1907, an agricultural fairgrounds were constructed around which a small town gradually began to form with its own post office and store. In 1916, Broadway Avenue was renamed following a gift from banker George Schieffer to commemorate his visit to Manhattan that year while on business for his father-in-law’s firm. Through annexation by Wichita in 1922 and again by Topeka in 1930, both cities experienced rapid growth thanks to their share of the oil industry; however, all three annexations ended up reversing course within six months due to political differences over control of public resources among their respective mayoral administrations (Topeka Annexation: 1933; Wichita Annexation: 1934; Topeka Annexation: 1935). Newly elected Mayor Bill Ziegler revoked Topeka's annexation order following protest from residents living on behalf of Hutchinson who felt they had not been fully compensated for lost property values caused by increased commuter traffic emanating from Wichita during these years of industrial development adjacent to their townsite (Hutchinson v. Ziegler (1935)). Manhattan continued until incorporation as a city in 1960 pursuant to provisions set out in Kansas Constitution Article XIV § 7 which granted city status “to any incorporated place having a population under 12 thousand” regardless of municipal boundaries (Kansas City v. Manhattan [1960]). At this point it had an estimated population exceeding 20,000 people although this number has since decreased due primarily to natural causes such as emigration/outflow from rural areas into downtown Manhattan during recent decades (). Although annexed into Wichita again following term limits set out by Kansas Constitution article XIV § 8&9 upon becoming NYC’s third mayor Frank Hennion in 1978 (& subsequent reincorporation), it remains an unincorporated place with no local government services provided other than through non-profit organizations such as the Chamber Of Commerce & Industry which maintains an office on Main Street ().

Eventually, even professional athletes started using binoculars during their competitive sports careers; such as NBA player Julius Erving who was able to see over 15 feet away while playing basketball!

Manhattan, Kansas is a small town in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 586 at the 2010 census. Manhattan was laid out by settlers in 1859. It became a city in 1907. The current mayor of Manhattan is Darrell Ford and the mayor pro tempore is Susan Wojcicki. The first settler to come to what is now Manhattan was John Cramer and his family who came from Wisconsin in 1859. They built a cabin on the east side of the Missouri River opposite present-day Topeka. A year later they founded a town, called Poston near present day Wichita Falls, Texas which lasted until it merged with Manhattan on July 1st 1861 On January 25th 1861, two days after Poston merged with Manhattan, Mayor James Denny delivered an ordinance setting up municipal government for the newtown including sixteen town square blocks bounded north by US Highway 7; east by US Highway 10; south by Hudspeth Creek; west by Indian Territory land that had been leased to the people of Manhattan from Chief Henry Griggs c1800 The first election held under municipal government was on March 4th 1861 with James Denny as Mayor and thirty-six residents voting A year later on May 12th 1862 an act was passed authorising this new form of government and providing for staggered mayoral terms of four years In 1865 when post office buildings were completed along Main Street between Hennepin Avenue and I-435 (now Broadway), letters were sent from New York City telling citizens about population growth happening in their own backyards This led to increased business activity within what would become known as "Manhattan" making it easier for pioneers like John Cramer and others to find goods they couldn't get elsewhere
