In addition to its history as a center for industry and commerce, Downtown Manhattan also has a rich cultural heritage dating back to when it was known as Lower New York (now Brooklyn) Village (founded 1624). With its art galleries and theaters, restaurants and nightlife options – all within walking distance – Downtown Manhattan is quickly becoming one of New York City’s key tourist attractions.
Manhattan, Kansas was founded in 1867 by Samuel L. Morrill and others as a Territorial County in the Nebraska Territory. In 1881, it became a full-fledged county within Kansas. The population of Manhattan in 1907 was 2,811 people; by 2013, it had grown to 6,711 people.
