Ammunition has a long and varied history in Manhattan, Kansas. The first shot fired in the city was at an old fort on the east side of town on July 16th, 1871. Ammunition was needed for defense against Native Americans and settlers who had taken up residence in the area. The first store to sell ammunition in Manhattan was J.C. Penney’s on Second Avenue in 1895. bullet production increased after World War I when America entered into the war with Germany due to smuggling activity around the country. Ammunition production continued until 1957 when it ended because of budget cuts by the United States government. In 1961, Manhattan became home to Kansas State University’s Center for Research In International Arms Control (CREAC). CREAC is responsible for developing safe handling practices for military ammunition and firearms; it also helps promote research into arms control issues. Since then, there have been several other businesses that have opened up in downtown Manhattan offering ammo products including Ammo Plus Inc., which sells reloadable ammunition, and Ammo USA Inc., which specializes in American made rifle rounds as well as shotgun shells and pistols; both companies are located along Second Avenue between 20th Street and 22nd Street. From its inception until Prohibition in 1920, Telluride produced over 100 beer brands including Topeka Wheat (the first wheat beer ever brewed), Blue Ribbon (the first blue ribbon wheat beer), Indian Pale Ale (IPA) and White Gold (a golden ale). prohibition did not affect Telluride as much as others breweries because they made use of adjuncts such as cornstarch which wasn't banned but had high taxes due to its fermentation process being similar to wine fermentation; thus they continued production even though many other breweries stopped brewing altogether after prohibition began on January 1st 1920. After Prohibition ended,Telluride Brewery resumed production under new ownership beginning in 1933 by Carl Lindstrom who served as president for more than 30 years before his death on November 26th 1990 at age 91%. During Lindstrom's tenure: Syracuse Lager was introduced (now available all across America); Hefeweizen became popularized throughout North America; dark lagers such as Oktoberfest were introduced; craft beers such as India Pale Ale became popularized around the world In 1990 Tiltone Brewing Company purchased both Let’s Do It Again advertisements from Coca Cola Productions for use within their brewery This gave rise to rumors that Tiltone changed or removed all Coca Cola trademarks except for "Let’s Do It Again" during their purchase by Tiltone Brewery Today Tiltone Brewery has 2 locations: One location produces barrel aged beers using top quality barrels from Smoky Hill County Kentucky while another produces modern craft beers using same ingredients but different processes

Manhattan, Kansas was a small town in central Kansas until the early 1800s. The first settler in the area was James Fenton, who arrived in 1847. By 1860, Manhattan had a population of about 118 people. In 1881, the town was merged with Garden City to form the present-day city of Topeka. In 1863, three men from Manhattan - John Witherspoon, Samuel Hildebrandt and George Aiken - founded Garden City on the east side of Manhattan Creek. They named their new community after New York City's most famous neighborhood: Garden District on Central Park West. The arrival of railroads in 1867 changed everything for Manhattan; by that time, it consisted of only a scattering of residences and a few stores. However, through hard work and dedication by its citizens, Albany Depot became one of Topeka's earliest businesses and helped drive growth within the city over the next decade. In 1886, when Topeka became an independent city under its own government, Albany Depot continued to be one of its most important landmarks - serving as both its civic center and commercial district. Over time Albany Depot slowly lost its importance as Topeka grew more populous and modernized; however, it still retaining some nostalgic value for many residents today. 'Albany Depot is not only significant historically because it served asTopeka's first municipal building...but also because it is one of Topeka's oldest surviving buildings.'
Manhattan, Kansas is a city in and the county seat of Manhattan County, Kansas, United States. The population was 3,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita–Jefferson County metropolitan area. The name "manhattan" comes from the Dutch word "Het Manhatten" meaning "The Hague". Manhattan was founded in 1854 by the Kansas Territorial Legislature as a town on the east side of Manhattan Creek. In 1861, it became a city when its charter was granted by Kansas Territorial Governor James Hance. In 1871, it annexed portions of Lawrence to form a new city. In 1907, Mayor John A. Richardson proposed that the name for what is now Wichita be changed to Manhattan because of its location atop an ancient Indian trading post known as Pawnee Fort (now Cheyenne Memorial Park). The proposal failed but he continued to promote it until his death in 1923. In 1949, when Wichita joined Topeka as one of six cities within the newly formed Topeka-Anadarko-Kilgore Metropolitan Statistical Area, Manhattan became Topeka's second largest city after downtown Topeka and immediately before Wichita's current boundaries were established. That year also saw construction begin on Interstate 35 and subsequent growth led to increased traffic congestion on I-35 which culminated with an accident in 1951 that killed four people while driving through downtown Manhattan during rush hour
