Liberal, Kansas is a town in Geary County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first settler in Liberal was George Baird in 1859. A post office called Liberal was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1881, a group of farmers who had been farming near Liberal decided to move to the new community and form a village. The name of the village was changed to Liberal on January 10th, 1882 after its incorporation into Geary County as a town. On October 8th, 1890, Democratic Congressman James Kapp announced his candidacy for re-election to the Twenty-Third Congress from Kansas’s 1st congressional district; he would run against Republican incumbent John Hance. As Kapp prepared to formally enter the race on October 15th (the day before election day), he learned that his wife had given birth to their second child less than two weeks prior and decided not to run for reelection instead opting instead to return home with his son (who then was six years old). Ultimately Kapp won reelection against Hance by 4%, making him one of only two members of Congress fromKansas ever elected without running for another term (the other being Hiram Johnson). Kapp is also notable for having helped pass legislation establishing Statehood for Kansas on November 16th 1889 which became effective upon proclamation by President Grover Cleveland. This event marks both the formal declaration of statehood by President Cleveland and also the first time that either political entity within what is now Kansas had any say over whether or not they should be considered part of America due to their location within this new country respectively - an important distinction at that time as most people viewed America as one large country made up of many diverse states while different regions within America were considered separate nations/countries under their respective governments. The city limits expansion permitted by this legislation are still visible today as wellosterously marked borders along Interstate 35 between Wichita and Topeka - although these have since been largely eliminated through development inside those cities proper rather than expanding outward beyond those boundaries like they did back when this originally happened. In 1904 Democrat Alfred Ewing ran for Governor of Kansas against incumbent Orville Hale; however Ewing lost by just over 2%. Two years later on November 3rd – following passage of Act No., 1004 – Liberals voted narrowly in favor of becoming a member-Township therein; however this decision did not reflect popular sentimentality towards Communism at that time as Communist Party candidates had never previously won an election anywhere east or southward withinGeary County save for Garden City which voting interventionist government there undertook during World War I prevented them from doing so again until after 1945 when Communists took control there once more). In 1938 Democrat Harry Barnes unsuccessfully ran against incumbent Orville Hale again but did win third place behind Republican Bob Dole who would go onto serve four terms as Governor before dying in office less than three months later aged 83 years old marking the end of an era in which Democrats held statewide power throughout much though not all eastern Geary County outside Wichita until right around 1990 when Republicans regained control there through various electoral fraud techniques) . From here things went back into more traditional Democratic hands with occasional wins until 1990 when Republicans began broadly implementing conservative policies throughout most eastern Geary County outside Wichita leading eventually unto their current grip on power today albeit with some sporadic Republican victories here and there throughout much though not all eastern Geary County outside Wichita .
Liberal, Kansas history began with the arrival of James Fenton in 1847. He was a rancher and surveyor who bought land in present-day Liberal and developed it into a town. In 1860, he donated the town square to the state government for use as a public square. The first courthouse was built in 1865, and it served as the seat of government for Liberal until 1875. In 1881, Republican Governor John A. Sibley established an agricultural college in Liberal to educate farmers. The college became the University of Kansas in 1903. In 1907, Liberal lost its status as a city and became part of Topeka.

In 1907 Liberal merged with Topeka to form the new city of Topeka and liberalism continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1950 when it had a population of 25,000 people; however since then it hasdeclined by about 10%. Today Liberal has a population of 6,500 people and most residents are engaged in agriculture or service-industry activities such as trucking or manufacturing
