After three years there, she returned to Lenexa to finish high school where she met her husband Lloyd and they married in December 1933. She continued acting for many years before becoming a stay-at-home mom while he worked as a banker and then executive director of the state board of education; however he later left that job to run for office himself and won election as the first Republican Mayor of Wichita in 1978 After leaving office he became president of Citizens Energy Corporation which merged into American Electric Power Company in 1986 He retired from that job in 1998 but continues to live near Wichita Falls, Texas where he has been involved with various civic affairs
